Glutathione‐Responsive Acyl‐Modifications for Targeted RNA Decaging and Prolonged Protein Synthesis

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The self‐immolation of disulfide‐based mRNA modifications in response to endogenous glutathione (GSH) promotes a gradual release of translatable mRNA within the cell, leading to improved nuclease resistance, tunable release properties, and a significant increase (up to 600%) of target protein production over time. This strategy offers an exciting proof

CO2 as a Redox Shuttle Enables Photocatalytic Dehydrogenative Decarbonylation of Biomass‐Derived Alcohols to Light Alkanes

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A heterogeneous photocatalytic system has been developed that enables the dehydrogenative decarbonylation of primary alcohols under visible light using highly dispersed oxidic iron sites supported on aryl‐modified graphitic carbon nitride (Fe@f–gC3N4).

An Update of Transition Metal-Catalyzed Decarboxylative Transformations of Cyclic Carbonates and Carbamates

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
Functionalized cyclic organic carbonates and carbamates are frequently used in a number of transition metal-catalyzed decarboxylative reactions for the construction of interesting molecules.

The Experimental Oxime K027—A Promising Protector From Organophosphate Pesticide Poisoning. A Review Comparing K027, K048, Pralidoxime, and Obidoxime

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2019
Poisoning with organophosphorus compounds (OPCs) is a major problem worldwide. Standard therapy with atropine and established oxime-type enzyme reactivators (pralidoxime, obidoxime) is unsatisfactory.

Nitro Reduction‐Based RNA Control and Ultrafast Release

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A chemical RNA caging–uncaging strategy based on nitro reduction is described. Nitroaryl groups introduced via acylation temporarily block the functions of diverse RNAs in vitro and in living cells. Treatment with a diboronic acid–bipyridine mixture rapidly reduces the nitro groups, releasing RNAs and restoring their activity.

Assessment of Organophosphate and Carbamate Pesticide Residues in Cigarette Tobacco with a Novel Cell Biosensor

open access: yesSensors, 2008
The conventional analysis of pesticide residues in analytical commodities, such as tobacco and tobacco products is a labor intensive procedure, since it is necessary to cover a wide range of different chemicals, using a single procedure.

Carbamates as Potential Prodrugs and a New Warhead for HDAC Inhibition

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
We designed and synthesized carbamates of the clinically-approved HDAC (histone deacetylase) inhibitor vorinostat (suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid, SAHA) in order to validate our previously-proposed hypothesis that these carbamates might serve as ...
