Over-treatment of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae

Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2011
To describe the treatment and outcomes of patients with carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae and evaluate whether these cases represented active infection requiring antibiotic therapy or colonization.Adult inpatients with carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae were retrospectively evaluated.

Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae – once positive always positive?

Current Opinion in Gastroenterology, 2020
This review provides an overview of gastrointestinal tract colonization with carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE), including risk factors for colonization, determinants for duration of colonization, and whether patients can decolonize, either spontaneously or via targeted interventions.CPE colonization is disseminating globally with ...

Strategies for identification of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae

Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, 2012
The spread of carbapenem-hydrolysing β-lactamases in Enterobacteriaceae is becoming a major public health issue. These β-lactamases hydrolyse almost all β-lactams, are plasmid-encoded and are easily transferable among enterobacterial species. They are found in multidrug-resistant isolates.

Klebsiella pneumoniae Carbapenemase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae, Northeast Florida

Southern Medical Journal, 2009
Since 2001 there have been several reported outbreaks due to carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (Kp), particularly in the northeastern states.Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae from healthcare facilities in Northeast Florida were phenotypically identified and confirmed using PCR amplification and sequencing of the blaKPC gene. Results ...

Klebsiella pneumoniae Carbapenemase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae

Journal of Infusion Nursing, 2010
Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae, particularly Klebsiella pneumoniae, are rapidly emerging as significant health care-associated pathogens. Because of the adverse impact that infection caused by these extensively drug-resistant organisms can have on patient outcomes, efforts to prevent further transmission of these pathogens within the health ...

Treatment of infections caused by carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae

Enfermedades Infecciosas y Microbiología Clínica, 2014
Treatment of infections caused by carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) is currently one of the most important challenges of infectious diseases. The available information is based on in vitro studies, some animal model data and a few case studies and retrospective cohorts; appropriate data are lacking or are very scarce for some old ...

Spectrophotometry-based detection of carbapenemase producers among Enterobacteriaceae

Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 2012
Carbapenem-hydrolyzing ß-lactamases are the most powerful ß-lactamases being able to hydrolyse almost all ß-lactams. They are mostly of the KPC, VIM, IMP, NDM, and OXA-48 type. A spectrophotometry technique based on analysis of the imipenem hydrolysis has been developed that differentiated carbapenemase- from noncarbapenemase producers.
