Influence of Dietary Fats and Carbohydrates on Lipid Metabolism in Male and Female Rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 1976
Effects of dietary fats and carbohydrates on lipid metabolism in rats were studied. Male and female 4-week-old rats were divided into 8 groups and fed 4 fat-carbohydrate combinations (beef tallow or safflower oil, each with either sucrose or rice starch).

Daily L-leucine supplementation in novice trainees during a 12-week weight training program. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
PURPOSE: To investigate the effects of daily oral L-leucine ingestion on strength, bone mineral-free lean tissue mass (LTM) and fat mass (FM) of free living humans during a 12-wk resistance-training program. METHODS: Twenty-six initially untrained men (n

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Isotopic and genetic methods reveal the role of the gut microbiome in mammalian host essential amino acid metabolism. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Intestinal microbiota perform many functions for their host, but among the most important is their role in metabolism, especially the conversion of recalcitrant biomass that the host is unable to digest into bioavailable compounds.

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Dietary adherence to whole grain and refined grain rich diets in a randomized controlled trial [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Dietary adherence is the degree to which participants follow prescribed dietary protocol. Without measuring adherence, it is not possible to validly measure the effect of the intervention.

Recent advances in sturgeon nutrition. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Sturgeons are fish species of biological and economical importance, and most of them are endangered, vulnerable or rare because of their large size, late sexual maturity, long period between spawning, and longevity.

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Connection of spectral pattern of carbohydrate molecular structure to alteration of nutritional properties of coffee by-products after fermentation [PDF]

open access: yesAnimal Bioscience
Objective The objective of this study was to determine internal structure spectral profile of by-products from coffee processing that were affected by added-microorganism fermentation duration in relation to truly absorbed feed nutrient supply in ...

Dietary carbohydrate requirement of Heterobranchus longifilis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The dietary carbohydrate requirement of Heterobranchus longifilis was evaluated in two separate experiments. In the first experiment, varying levels of carbohydrate ranging from 28, 24 to58 72% were fed to the fish of mean weight 1.83~c0.02g.
