GDP‐fucose transporter SLC35C1: a potential regulatory role in cytosolic GDP‐fucose and fucosylated glycan synthesis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The inactivation of SLC35C1 (GDP‐fucose transporter) and enzymes involved in GDP‐fucose biosynthesis was studied. Fucose supplementation increases the level of GDP‐fucose to abnormal, millimolar values in the absence of the TSTA3 protein and SLC35C1 in contrast to the GMDS/SLC35C1 double mutant.

Influence of nutrition on feline calcium oxalate urolithiasis with emphasis on endogenous oxalate synthesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The prevalence of calcium oxalate (CaOx) uroliths detected in cats with lower urinary tract disease has shown a sharp increase over the last decades with a concomitant reciprocal decrease in the occurrence of struvite (magnesium ammonium phosphate ...

Acute sulforaphane action exhibits hormonal and metabolic activities in the rat: in vivo and in vitro studies

open access: yesCzech Journal of Animal Science, 2016
So far, only the chronic effect of sulforaphane (SF) on metabolism was examined. This study sheds more light on SF potential ability of regulating lipid, carbohydrate, and hormonal metabolism during its acute action in in vivo and in vitro conditions. In

Estimators of Entropy and Information via Inference in Probabilistic Models [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 25th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Statistics, PMLR 151:5604-5621, 2022, 2022
Estimating information-theoretic quantities such as entropy and mutual information is central to many problems in statistics and machine learning, but challenging in high dimensions. This paper presents estimators of entropy via inference (EEVI), which deliver upper and lower bounds on many information quantities for arbitrary variables in a ...

Steroidal contraceptives: effect on carbohydrate metabolism in women without diabetes mellitus.

open access: yesCochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2014
BACKGROUND Many hormonal contraceptives have been associated with changes in carbohydrate metabolism. Alterations may include decreased glucose tolerance and increased insulin resistance, which are risk factors for Type 2 diabetes mellitus and ...

Patient Perceptions of Medication Therapy for Prevention of Posttraumatic Osteoarthritis Following Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury: A Qualitative Content Analysis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Posttraumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) accounts for nearly 12% of osteoarthritis incidences and often occurs after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. Ensuring the uptake of preventive treatments for PTOA requires that investigators and clinicians understand factors influencing patients to seek preventive therapies.

Effect of high and low glycaemic index recovery diets on intramuscular lipid oxidation during aerobic exercise [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Intramyocellular lipid (IMCL) and plasma NEFA are important skeletal muscle fuel sources. By raising blood insulin concentrations, carbohydrate ingestion inhibits lypolysis and reduces circulating NEFA.

Physiological oxygen culture reveals retention of metabolic memory in human induced pluripotent stem cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Reprogramming somatic cells to a pluripotent cell state (induced Pluripotent Stem (iPS) cells) requires reprogramming of metabolism to support cell proliferation and pluripotency, most notably changes in carbohydrate turnover that reflect a shift from ...
