Periodate oxidation analysis of carbohydrates
Journal of Chromatography A, 1978Abstract Conjugated aldehydes in the products of the periodate oxidation of glycosides were converted quantitatively into their 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazones by treatment of the products with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine hydrochloride in 1,2-dimethoxyethane, and the hydrazones formed were separated by high-performance liquid chromatography.

“Green” oxidation reactions—application to carbohydrate chemistry
Green Chem., 2003Oxidation of glycals by either methyltrioxorhenium (MTO)-hydrogen peroxide or hydrogen peroxide-acetonitrile in methanol provides direct access to methyl glycosides. The two different reagents proceed with a complementary stereochemical outcome enabling the synthesis of β-D-gluco-pyranosides or α-D-manno-pyranosides from the same carbohydrate precursor.

Metabolism, 1983
The carbohydrate intake of seven healthy men was increased from 220-265 g/d to 620-770 g/d for 17 days, while protein and fat intake remained constant. Carbohydrate loading did not affect the preprandial plasma glucose levels after an overnight fast, but reduced the postprandial increment in plasma glucose levels after 5, 11, and 17 days of overfeeding.

Oxidative conversion of renewable feedstock: carbohydrate oxidation
2016Carbohydrates are the most abundant resource for the conversion of renewable feedstocks to useful chemicals and energy. Approximately 180 billion tons of biomass is produced from photosynthesis each year, including about 180 million tons of edible sugars and more than 1 billion tons of starch from grains.

Phase Transfer Promoted Ruthenium Oxide Oxidations of Carbohydrates II
Journal of Carbohydrate Chemistry, 1990ABSTRACT The use of a phase transfer catalyst, benzyltriethylammonium chloride (BTEAC), is described in conjunction with the ruthenium dioxide/periodate : water/chloroform system for the oxidation of carbohydrate alcohols to the corresponding ketone, aldehyde, or carboxylic acid.

Wet oxidation of model carbohydrate compounds
Carbohydrate Research, 1984Abstract The major product formed by wet oxidation of a series of model compounds: d -xylose, d -glucose, d -glucitol, cellulose, and dextran, was formic acid. Its yield varied according to the structure of the carbohydrate, oxygen pressure, temperature, and the presence or absence of ferric sulfate. Acetic acid was also formed; its yield was much

Noble Metal Catalyzed Oxidation of Carbohydrates and Carbohydrate Derivatives
1992Summary The oxidation of carbohydrates over noble metals provides an important route towards various interesting compounds. Besides some general information on noble metal catalyzed oxidations an overview of the current state of the art on carbohydrate oxidations is presented.
