ApuA, a multifunctional x-glucan-degrading enzyme of Streptococcus suis, mediates adhesion to porcine epithelium and mucus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We have identified apuA in Streptococcus suis, which encodes a bifunctional amylopullulanase with conserved -amylase and pullulanase substrate-binding domains and catalytic motifs.

Promiscuity of the Euonymus Carbohydrate-Binding Domain

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2012
Plants synthesize small amounts of carbohydrate-binding proteins on exposure to stress. For example, on exposure to drought, high salt, wounding and by treatment with some plant hormones or by pathogen attack. In contrast to the ‘classical’ plant lectins

Engineering novel complement activity into a pulmonary surfactant protein [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Complement neutralizes invading pathogens, stimulates inflammatory and adaptive immune responses, and targets non- or altered-self structures for clearance.

Finished Genome of the Fungal Wheat Pathogen Mycosphaerella graminicola Reveals Dispensome Structure, Chromosome Plasticity, and Stealth Pathogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The plant-pathogenic fungus Mycosphaerella graminicola (asexual stage: Septoria tritici) causes septoria tritici blotch, a disease that greatly reduces the yield and quality of wheat.

TRAF2 binds to TIFA via a novel motif and contributes to its autophagic degradation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
TRAF family members couple receptor signalling complexes to downstream outputs, but how they interact with these complexes is not always clear. Here, we show that during ADP‐heptose signalling, TRAF2 binding to TIFA requires two short sequence motifs in the C‐terminal tail of TIFA, which are distinct from the TRAF6 binding motif.

Animal lectins as cell adhesion molecules [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Protein-carbohydrate interaction is exploited in cell adhesion mechanisms besides the recognition of peptide motifs. The sugar code thus significantly contributes to the intriguing specificity of cellular selection of binding partners.

From omics to AI—mapping the pathogenic pathways in type 2 diabetes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Integrating multi‐omics data with AI‐based modelling (unsupervised and supervised machine learning) identify optimal patient clusters, informing AI‐driven accurate risk stratification. Digital twins simulate individual trajectories in real time, guiding precision medicine by matching patients to targeted therapies.

De novo assembly and characterization of the transcriptome of a wild edible mushroom Leucocalocybe mongolica and identification of SSR markers

open access: yesBiotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment, 2017
Leucocalocybe mongolica is a prestigious rare wild edible mushroom in Northeast Asia. It is the unique species of the genus and the studying of its phynotype and genome is crucial to genus and species classification.

Biosynthesis and expression of zona pellucida glycoproteins in mammals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The zona pellucida (ZP) is an extracellular matrix surrounding the oocyte and the early embryo that exerts several important functions during fertilization and early embryonic development.

Glycome-DB.org: A portal for querying across the digital world of carbohydrate sequences [PDF]

open access: yesGlycobiology, 2009
Despite ongoing harmonization efforts, the major carbohydrate sequence databases following the first initiative in this field, CarbBank, are still isolated islands, with mechanisms for automatic structure exchange and comparison largely missing. This unfavorable situation has been overcome with a systematic data integration effort, resulting in the ...
