CD-HOC: Indoor Human Occupancy Counting using Carbon Dioxide Sensor Data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Human occupancy information is crucial for any modern Building Management System (BMS). Implementing pervasive sensing and leveraging Carbon Dioxide data from BMS sensor, we present Carbon Dioxide - Human Occupancy Counter (CD-HOC), a novel way to estimate the number of people within a closed space from a single carbon dioxide sensor.

Selective Reduction Laser Sintering: A New Strategy for NO2 Gas Detection Based on In2O3 Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This research utilizes selective reduction laser sintering (SRLS) to engineer In2O3 NPs for flexible NO2 sensors. The introduction of oxygen vacancy defects enhances sensor performance, offering excellent responsiveness, rapid response/recovery, superior selectivity, low detection limit, and long‐term stability.

Switching From Acceptor to FRET Donor: How the Organic Solar Cell Architecture Can Change the Role of a Chromophore

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The non‐fullerene acceptor o‐IDT‐BT‐DCV is used in both binary and ternary blends to investigate the role that it plays in each device architecture. The charge generation pathways are found to differ between the binary and ternary blends with o‐IDT‐BT‐DCV becoming a second donor in the ternary blend.

Electric Pulse Regulated MXene Based Nanozymes for Integrative Bioelectricity Immuno‐Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MXenzyme‐mediated bioelectricity cancer therapy (MXenzyme‐BECT) enhances cancer cell death through irreversible depolarization, ion channel disruption, ROS generation, and immunogenic cell death. Computational simulations reveal the electrical mechanisms by which MXenzyme acts on single cells and support to predict treatment parameters. Next‐generation

Shape‐Stabilization of Phase Change Materials with Carbon‐Conscious Poly(hydroxy)Urethane Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Poly(hydroxy)urethane (PHU) foam, derivable from carbon dioxide (CO2) and bio‐based resources, is a promising material platform for shape‐stabilizing phase change materials (PCMs). We demonstrate the encapsulation of both paraffins and calcium chloride hexahydrate in PHU foam, achieving 48 stable thermal cycles by introducing 5 wt.% barium carbonate ...

Separation of carbon dioxide from flue emissions using Endex principles [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
In an Endex reactor endothermic and exothermic reactions are directly thermally coupled and kinetically matched to achieve intrinsic thermal stability, efficient conversion, autothermal operation, and minimal heat losses. Applied to the problem of in-line carbon dioxide separation from flue gas, Endex principles hold out the promise of effecting a ...

Carbon Dioxide Removal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Despite extensive efforts, greenhouse gases continue to be emitted in vast amounts, with potentially devastating consequences around the world. This is why targeted interventions in the climate system, known collectively as ‘climate engineering’, are receiving increased attention. Proposed approaches are often divided into two groups: those intended to
