CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

Carbon ion radiotherapy for unresectable localized axial soft tissue sarcoma
Carbon ion radiotherapy is known for its high‐precision dose distribution and high biological effectiveness. We evaluated the results of carbon ion radiotherapy in 128 patients with unresectable localized axial soft tissue sarcoma at a single institution.

Molecular dynamics study of accelerated ion-induced shock waves in biological media [PDF]
We present a molecular dynamics study of the effects of carbon- and iron-ion induced shock waves in DNA duplexes in liquid water. We use the CHARMM force field implemented within the MBN Explorer simulation package to optimize and equilibrate DNA ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Radiosensitizing Effect of Gadolinium Oxide Nanocrystals in NSCLC Cells Under Carbon Ion Irradiation
Gadolinium-based nanomaterials can not only serve as contrast agents but also contribute to sensitization in the radiotherapy of cancers. Among radiotherapies, carbon ion irradiation is considered one of the superior approaches with unique physical and ...

Neoplastic transformation of mouse C3H 10T1/2 and Syrian hamster embryo cells by heavy ions [PDF]
C3H 10T1/2 mouse-embryo fibroblasts were used for transformation experiments to study the effectiveness of various heavy ions with energies up to 20 MeV/u and LET values from 170 to 16.000 keV/μm.

This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...
