Anadromous fish as marine nutrient vectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The tidal freshwater of Virginia supports anadromous herring (Alosa spp.) spawning runs in the spring; however, their importance as nutrient delivery vectors to the freshwater fish food web remains unknown.

Carbon isotopes in bulk carbonaceous chondrites [PDF]

open access: yes
The chemical and physical processes involved in the formation of the solar system are examined. Primitive matter has been found on a microscopic scale in a variety of meteorites: fragments of small solar system bodies that were never part of a large ...

Carbon and Oxygen Isotope Fractionation in Laboratory-Precipitated, Inorganic Calcite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Carbon and oxygen isotopes in calcite crystals provide a record of the environmental conditions under which the crystals formed. To investigate the influence of temperature, pH, and growth rate on isotope discrimination by calcite, we measured carbon and

Isotopic Carbon Abundances in M71

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 1997
High resolution echelle spectra of the 8005 Angstroms CN bands are presented for five bright giants in the globular cluster M71 (C1951 +186, NGC 6838). An analysis of the (13) CN feature included in this region confirms the results of \cite{briley94a}; that the M71 red giants evince low (12}C/({13)) C ratios and that these ratios are correlated with CN

Carbon isotopes in environmental and palaeoclimate investigation

open access: yes, 2013
Natural cosmic-ray produced radiocarbon 14C is a part of the CO2 cycle and through the atmosphere-biosphere-hydrosphere exchange process has been introduced to the environment. Anthropogenic disturbance of the natural 14C activity caused by nuclear tests, nuclear power plants and fossil fuel combustion has been recorded in the atmospheric CO2.

Carbon and oxygen isotope microanalysis of carbonate

Rapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, 2009
AbstractTechnical modification of the conventional method for the δ13C and δ18O analysis of 10–30 µg carbonate samples is described. The CO2 extraction is carried out in vacuum using 105% phosphoric acid at 95°C, and the isotopic composition of CO2 is measured in a helium flow by gas chromatography/isotope ratio mass spectrometry (GC/IRMS).
