Chirality-Selective Excitation of Coherent Phonons in Carbon Nanotubes

open access: yes, 2008
Using pre-designed trains of femtosecond optical pulses, we have selectively excited coherent phonons of the radial breathing mode of specific-chirality single-walled carbon nanotubes within an ensemble sample.

China’s Urbanization and Carbon Emissions Peak

open access: yesChinese Journal of Urban and Environmental Studies, 2015
With the increase of urban population around the world, the massive construction of urban infrastructure and residential housing is hard to avoid. Urbanization has become a major factor that influences carbon emissions instead of a secondary factor due to more and more energy consumption and carbon emissions caused by the economic activities related ...

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Nanopores of carbon nanotubes as practical hydrogen storage media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We report on hydrogen desorption mechanisms in the nanopores of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The as-grown MWCNTs show continuous walls that do not provide sites for hydrogen storage under ambient conditions.

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

Responses of Soil Quality and Microbial Community Composition to Vegetation Restoration in Tropical Coastal Forests

open access: yesBiology
Afforestation substantially promotes vegetation restoration and modifies soil physical, chemical, and biological properties. The integrated effects of soil properties on soil quality, expressed via a composite soil quality index (SQI), remain unclear ...

Prediction of Power System Cost and Price Level Under the Goal of “Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutralization”

open access: yesZhongguo dianli, 2023
In the process of achieving the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutralization in the power system, the power supply structure and grid form will change significantly, and the system cost will also change accordingly.

Resonant Tunneling in a Dissipative Environment

open access: yes, 2010
We measure tunneling through a single quantum level in a carbon nanotube quantum dot connected to resistive metal leads. For the electrons tunneling to/from the nanotube, the leads serve as a dissipative environment, which suppresses the tunneling rate ...
