Rhodium Tris(hydroxymethyl)phosphine (THP)/Amine Complexes as Stable Effective Homogenous Hydrogenation Catalysts in Aqueous Solution

open access: yesInorganics
Green chemistry, achieved by using water as a reaction medium, has several potential applications. In this work, a number of water-soluble Rh(III)–THP complexes, [Rh(III)Cl3(OH)(THP)2]− (1), [Rh(III)Cl2(OH)(THP)3] (2), [Rh(III)Cl(OH)(THP)4]+ (3), [Rh(III)

Amyloid β Instigates Cardiac Neurotrophic Signaling Impairment, Driving Alzheimer's Associated Heart Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This research identified cardiac amyloid pathology, neurotrophic factor depletion, and reduced myocardial nerve function in a transgenic model of cerebral amyloidosis (Tg2576), Aβ‐challenged cardiomyocytes, and in human AD heart tissue. These findings carry significant diagnostic and therapeutic implications, emphasizing the role of neuro‐signaling ...

Clarifying ‘carbon sequestration’

open access: yesCarbon Management, 2013
Despite widespread use in the literature, there seems to be little consensus on what the term ‘carbon (C) sequestration’ means. We differentiate between endogenous C, which fluxes within a system, and exogenous C, which fluxes between systems. Here we define ‘endogenous C sequestration’ as occurring when C fixation to release ratio is greater than one (

Inhibition of Calcium‐Dependent Lipid Droplets Relocation of ACSL4‐PKCβ‐ALOX15 Complex Alleviates Ferroptosis and Acute Pancreatitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies L‐type calcium channel blockers as novel ferroptosis inhibitors. It reveals that PKCβ, activated in calcium dependent manner, phosphorylates and activates ACSL4 and ALOX15, relocating them to lipid droplets to promote lethal lipid peroxidation and ferroptosis.

Structural shifts in China’s oil and gas CH4 emissions with implications for mitigation efforts

open access: yesNature Communications
Methane (CH4) is a potent and short-lived climate pollutant, with the oil and gas sectors emerging as an important contributor. China exhibited a substantial expansion of oil and gas infrastructures over recent years, but the CH4 emission accounting ...

Increasing impacts of land-use on biodiversity and carbon-sequestration driven by population and economic growth

open access: yesNature Ecology & Evolution, 2019
Biodiversity and ecosystem service losses driven by land-use change are expected to intensify as a growing and more affluent global population requires more agricultural and forestry products, and teleconnections in the global economy lead to increasing ...

Forests: Carbon sequestration, biomass energy, or both?

open access: yesScience Advances, 2020
Woody bioenergy demand and carbon sequestration payments increase forest area and produce net carbon benefits. There is a continuing debate over the role that woody bioenergy plays in climate mitigation.
