Influence of shear reinforcement corrosion on the performance of under-reinforced concrete beams [PDF]
The in-service performance of reinforced concrete beams can be severely affected through cor-rosion of the steel reinforcement when it becomes subjected to harsh corrosive environments containing chlo-rides and carbon dioxide.

We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

Effect of grain size on the corrosion resistance of low carbon steel
Systematic works on the effect of grain size on the corrosion resistance of low carbon steel are scant. In the present work, a spectrum of grain sizes was obtained by simple heat treatment routes in a typical low-carbon steel.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Hot deformation behavior and microstructural evolution of high-carbon high-strength low alloy steel
This study investigates the hot deformation behavior, microstructural evolution, and processing map of a high-carbon high-strength low alloy steel subjected to hot compression tests in the temperature range of 850 °C–1150 °C and strain rates from 0.01 s ...

We investigated the toxicity of 12 active compounds commonly found in herbal weight loss supplements (WLS) using human liver and colon cell models. Epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate was the only compound showing significant toxicity. Metabolic profiling revealed protein degradation, disrupted energy and lipid metabolism suggesting that the inclusion of EGCG ...

Crystallographic characteristics of acicular ferrite nucleated on inclusions in a HSLA steel
Acicular ferrite (AF) has been regarded as the optimal microstructure in steel welds and heat affect zones (HAZs), because of its superior combination of strength and toughness.

The role of consumption in material reduction opportunities: the impact of product lifetime in supplying the UK steel demand [PDF]
Most of the products purchased in the UK are manufactured in other countries. As a result, worldwide greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions released to manufacture all products purchased in the UK are significantly higher than the UK territorial emissions ...
