Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

CO2 perturbation experiments: similarities and differences between dissolved inorganic carbon and total alkalinity manipulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) through human activities and invasion of anthropogenic CO2 into the surface ocean alters the seawater carbonate chemistry, increasing CO2 and bicarbonate (HCO3−) at the expense of carbonate ion (CO32 ...

Refining the interpretation of lacustrine carbonate isotope records: Implications of a mineralogy-specific Lake Van case study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Oxygen and carbon isotope (δ18O and δ13C) data from bulk carbonates are widely applied proxies for temperature, the precipitation/evaporation ratio and productivity in lacustrine palaeohydrology and palaeoclimatology. In case of the terminal and alkaline

Visualization simulation experiments and porosity evolution mechanisms of deep to ultra-deep carbonate reservoirs

open access: yesPetroleum Exploration and Development
To address the challenges in studying the pore formation and evolution processes, and unclear preservation mechanisms of deep to ultra-deep carbonate rocks, a high-temperature and high-pressure visualization simulation experimental device was developed ...

Solubility-mediated sustained release enabling nitrate additive in carbonate electrolytes for stable lithium metal anode

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
The physiochemical properties of the solid-electrolyte interphase, primarily governed by electrolyte composition, have a profound impact on the electrochemical cycling of metallic lithium.

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

Tubular carbonate concretions as hydrocarbon migration pathways? Examples from North Island, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Cold seep carbonate deposits are associated with the development on the sea floor of distinctive chemosyn¬thetic animal communities and carbonate minerali¬sation as a consequence of microbially mediated anaerobic oxidation of methane.

Genetic types and distinguished characteristics of dolomite and the origin of dolomite reservoirs

open access: yesPetroleum Exploration and Development, 2018
To find out the origin of dolomite, the precipitation of primary dolomite, and the formation of pores in dolomite, petrologic and geochemical characteristics of typical samples from Sichuan and Tarim Basin were analyzed based on the previous ...

Enzyme Induced Biocementated Sand with High Strength at Low Carbonate Content

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
Specimens of silica sand treated via enzyme induced carbonate precipitation (EICP) showed surprisingly high strength at a relatively low carbonate content when non-fat powdered milk was included in the treatment solution.
