Characteristics of Carbonate-Platform Margins

AAPG Bulletin, 1974
Abstract Study of many varied carbonate complexes in ancient rocks results in recognition of three recurring patterns of shelf-margin facies and associated organic buildups. Bases for the classification are stratigraphic profile, shape and disposition of discrete carbonate bodies along the profile slope, and environmental ...

Carbonate platform fades models

1989
Various types of carbonate platforms are characterized by distinctive profiles, facies, and evolutionary sequences. Ramps may be homoclinal or distally steepened, and may have fringing or barrier shoal-water complexes of ooid-pellet sands or skeletal banks.

Modern Isolated Carbonate Platforms

2008
Abstract A geologic model is essential for characterization and modeling of hydrocarbon reservoirs, and depositional facies are a main parameter controlling heterogeneity in porosity and permeability. Quantification of facies attributes (size, shape, orientation, and distribution) can decrease uncertainty in a geologic model and ...

The fate of foramol (“temperate-type”) carbonate platforms

Sedimentary Geology, 1988
Abstract On rimmed shelves of Bahamian-type, characterized by chlorozoan associations and typical of tropical seas, carbonate production keeps pace with normal sea-level rise except when rapid rise or drastic environmental changes occurs. On the other hand, open temperate carbonate shelves are characterized by low carbonate production of the foramol ...

Carbonate Platform Facies Models

AAPG Bulletin, 1985
ABSTRACT Various types of carbonate platforms are characterized by distinctive profiles, facies, and evolutionary sequences. Ramps may be homoclinal or distally steepened, and may have fringing or barrier shoal-water complexes of ooid-pellet sands or skeletal banks.

Carbon Nanosyringe Array as a Platform for Intracellular Delivery

Nano Letters, 2009
We report a novel platform for intracellular delivery of genetic material and nanoparticles, based on vertically aligned carbon nanosyringe arrays (CNSAs) of controllable height. Using this technology, we have shown that plasmid and quantum dots can be efficiently delivered to the cytoplasm of cancer cells and human mesenchymal stem cells.

Drowning Unconformities on Carbonate Platforms

1989
Abstract Flanks of carbonate platforms steepen as the platform rises higher above the basin floor. Furthermore, platform slopes are steeper on average than siliciclastic slopes. Termination of platform growth through rapid submergence or suffocation by siliciclastics produces an unconformity, because the clastics cannot assume the ...

Dynamics of Tethyan Carbonate Platforms

1989
Abstract Tethyan carbonate platforms are relatively short-lived depositional systems that were born, developed, died, and were resurrected in a tectonically active area. In fact, they experienced the entire geodynamic spectrum (rifting, drifting, transtension, transpression, and collision) of the Wilson cycle.
