Aptian carbonate platform development in the Southern Iberian Palaeomargin (Prebetic of Alicante, SE Spain)☆

open access: yesBSGF - Earth Sciences Bulletin, 2019
The Aptian stratigraphic record of the Alicante region consists of: a rudist and coral-rich carbonate platform of earliest Aptian age (Llopis Formation), with a discontinuous siliciclastic member at its top; followed by late Early, to Late Aptian ...

The Influence of Carbonate Platforms on the Geomorphological Development of a Mixed Carbonate‐Siliciclastic Margin (Great Barrier Reef, Australia)

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2020
Sedimentation regimes on the Great Barrier Reef margin often do not conform to more conventional sequence stratigraphic models, presenting difficulties when attempting to identify key processes that control the margin's geomorphological evolution.

Nonvolcanic tectonic islands in ancient and modern oceans

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2013
Most oceanic islands are due to excess volcanism caused by thermal and/or compositional mantle melting anomalies. We call attention here to another class of oceanic islands, due not to volcanism but to vertical motions of blocks of oceanic lithosphere ...

Closing History of the Late Palaeozoic Oceanic Basins between Tarim and Junggar: Geodynamics and Stratigraphic Problems [PDF]

open access: yesУчёные записки Казанского университета: Серия Естественные науки, 2016
The history of the Late Palaeozoic convergence and collisions in the South Tian Shan, Tarim, and South Junggar has been considered based on new geological and geochronological data.

Equatorial Shelf of the Palaeozoic Supercontinent – Cradle of the Adriatic Carbonate Platform

open access: yesGeologia Croatica, 2005
During the Carboniferous and Permian, several carbonate platformsexisted along the eastern coast of the supercontinent Pangaea.Croatian Palaeozoic carbonate sediments were produced in this “carbonatefactory”.

Liver organoids: modelling complexity in homeostasis and disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Studying liver in vitro has been challenging because simple 2D cell cultures fail to capture liver's cellular and architectural complexity. To bridge this gap, scientists increasingly use organoids, 3D liver models which better mimic liver composition and function. This review examines recent advances in liver organoid complexity and realism, discusses

Seismic Attributes Aided Characterization of Margin Backstepping and Advance along Isolated Carbonate Sequences, Sirt Basin, Libya

open access: yesمجلة المختار للعلوم, 2021
Isolated carbonate platforms are common and contain significant hydrocarbon accumulations, particularly in the tectonically complex Sirt Basin in Libya.

L‐aspartate oxidase provides new insights into fumarate reduction in anaerobic darkness in Synechocystis sp. PCC6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Synechocystis strains deficient in succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) secrete more succinate than the WT under dark anaerobic conditions, supporting that SDH then primarily acts as SDH, not as a fumarate reductase. L‐aspartate oxidase (Laspo) from Synechocystis is functional under anaerobic conditions, reducing fumarate to succinate.

The influence of carbonate platform interactions with subduction zone volcanism on palaeo-atmospheric CO2 since the Devonian [PDF]

open access: yesClimate of the Past, 2018
The CO2 liberated along subduction zones through intrusive/extrusive magmatic activity and the resulting active and diffuse outgassing influences global atmospheric CO2.
