Legacy effects under an emerging novel disturbance regime: A memory‐based framework to quantify tree growth responses

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 2, February 2026.
Moderate‐severity disturbances often leave legacy effects on surviving trees. We conceptualized the legacy effect as a shift in ecological memory (quantified by sensitivity, length, and temporal pattern) and quantified the legacy effect of drought and intentional fire on tree growth.

Non‐Response to Obeticholic Acid Is Associated With Heightened Risks of Developing Clinical Events in Primary Biliary Cholangitis

open access: yesAlimentary Pharmacology &Therapeutics, Volume 63, Issue 4, Page 494-506, February 2026.
In a multi‐centre study of obeticholic acid in primary biliary cholangitis, 45% discontinued the drug over 4 years, with 11% moving to combination therapy (fibrates). Of those continuing, response rates increased from 37% (1 year) to 55% (4 years). Non‐response at 12 months and cirrhosis were independent predictors of liver‐related events.

Prostate zonal impact of 5α‐reductase inhibitors on multiparametric MRI characteristics and detection of prostate cancer

open access: yesBJU International, Volume 137, Issue 2, Page 332-338, February 2026.
Objectives To assess the impact of 5α‐reductase inhibitors (5‐ARIs) on multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) features of Prostate Imaging‐Reporting and Data System (PI‐RADS) lesions and their influence on the detection of clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa), with a focus on differences between prostate zones.

Troriluzole attenuates opioid intake, reinforcing efficacy, seeking behaviours, physical dependence and antinociceptive tolerance in rats

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 3, Page 505-519, February 2026.
Background and Purpose Riluzole, approved for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), has a glutamate‐modulating profile favourable for mitigating opioid addiction. It reduces neuronal glutamate release and enhances glutamate reuptake, offering advantages over agents that only increase glutamate reuptake.
