Carborane polymers. III. Vinyl carboranes
Journal of Polymer Science Part A: General Papers, 1965AbstractIsopropenylcarborane could not be polymerized by conventional radical and ionic methods. A low molecular weight polymer of DP = 10 was obtained by the use of aluminum chloride as catalyst at 150–170°C. Carboranylmethyl acrylate was homopolymerized and copolymerized with fluoroacrylates by using benzoyl peroxide as catalyst.

Icosahedral carboranes. XIII. Halogenation of p-carborane
Inorganic Chemistry, 1969Abstract : A method for the preparation and purification of substantial amounts of p-carborane is described. Chloro-, bromo- and iodo-p-carboranes were obtained via direct halogenation. The various halogenated species were separated by either column or vapor phase chromatography.

Development of carborane synthons: synthesis and chemistry of (aminoalkyl)carboranes
Inorganic Chemistry, 1992A number of (aminoalkyl)-1,2-closo-dodecaboranes have been synthesized to provide carboranes with a functional group for covalent incorporation into structures of potential use in the treatment of cancer by boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT). (Phthalimidoalkyl)acetylenes reacted with decaborane to give the corresponding carboranes; removal of the ...

Abstract The conditions of the preparation of boron—thallated 1,2-, 1,7- and 1,12-dicarba- closo -dodecaboranes(12) (trivial names “ o -, m - and p -carboranes”) have been studied. It was shown that maximum yields of the products are attained when o - and m -carboranes are treated consecutively with equimolecular amounts of mercuric oxide and ...

New carboranes and phosphaboranes
Pure and Applied Chemistry, 2003Abstract A review is presented on the new routes to the synthesis of the monocarbaboranes [arachno-6-CB9H14]–, arachno-4-CB8H14, and nido-1-CB8H12, that now have become excellent starting materials for the preparation of a family of seven-, eight-, and nine-vertex closo-monocarbaborane anions [2-CB6H7]–, [1-CB7H8]–, and [4-CB8H9]–. These

Icosahedral carboranes. XVII. Simplified preparation of o-carborane
Inorganic Chemistry, 1972Abstract : A new synthesis of 1,2-dicarbaclosododecaborane is described which involves the reaction of acetylene with B10H12L2 compounds in the solid state. This simplified laboratory procedure provides pure o-carborane in one step as a sublimate from the reaction mixture. (Author)
