Effects of Prenatal Ursodeoxycholic Acid and Probiotic Supplementation on Stress Parameters, Immune Response and Lamb Survival Rates in Ewes

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 5, September 2026.
Prenatal ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) and probiotic supplementation, administered alone or combined, modulate colostrum quality and neonatal immunity in ewes. Combined UDCA + PRO most consistently increases colostral IgG, enhances neonatal IgG levels, and improves lamb survival.

Prevalence and Characteristics of Salmonella spp. by Production Stage in Integrated Broiler Operations in Korea

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 5, September 2026.
Vertically integrated broiler production systems may facilitate the dissemination of Salmonella throughout the production chain. This study demonstrates that Salmonella persists and spreads across all stages of integrated broiler production, highlighting the need for rigorous biosecurity, hygiene and continuous monitoring throughout the entire ...

Graded Levels of Dietary Valine in Protein‐Restricted Diets: Effects on Reproductive Performance and Tissue Morphology in Laying Japanese Quail

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 5, September 2026.
Dietary supplementation of 0.95% valine in protein‐restricted diets optimizes reproductive performance, egg quality, and ovarian follicular development in laying Japanese quail. Higher levels do not provide additional benefits and may increase hepatic metabolic demand, highlighting the importance of precise amino acid formulation in low‐protein feeding

Feathers and flu: identifying data gaps in avian influenza host dynamics to prioritize wildlife conservation Plumas y gripe: identificación de datos faltantes en la dinámica de hospedadores de la influenza aviar para priorizar la conservación de la vida silvestre

open access: yesWildlife Monographs, Volume 225, Issue 1, September 2026.
We describe the host response continuum for highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAIV), including the continuum of host responses to HPAIV infection and exposure based on the primary axis of host competence, ability to infect other hosts, and host vulnerability.

Modulating Hunting Atmospheres: Mud and Material Flows Beyond the Kill

open access: yesAmerican Anthropologist, Volume 128, Issue 3, Page 629-639, September 2026.
ABSTRACT This article argues that hunting is not a bounded event but a materially redistributed atmosphere that extends beyond the kill and across field, truck, clothing, and home. Drawing on long‐term ethnographic fieldwork with wild boar hunters in Uruguay, I show how mud, odors, blood, and bodily residues carry the sensory, affective, and material ...
