Tailoring the Properties of Functional Materials With N‐Oxides

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The properties of materials bearing N‐oxide groups are often dominated by the polar N+─O− bond. It provides hydrophilicity, selective ion‐binding, electric conductivity, or antifouling properties. Many of the underlying mechanisms have only recently been discovered, and the interest in N‐oxide materials is rapidly growing.

The history of arsenical pesticides and health risks related to the use of Agent Blue

open access: yesAnnals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine, 2017
Arsenicals in agriculture. Beginning in the 1970s, the use of arsenic compounds for such purposes as wood preservatives, began to grow. By 1980, in the USA, 70% of arsenic had been consumed for the production of wood preservatives.

Listing Occupational Carcinogens

open access: yesEnvironmental Health Perspectives, 2004
The occupational environment has been a most fruitful one for investigating the etiology of human cancer. Many recognized human carcinogens are occupational carcinogens. There is a large volume of epidemiologic and experimental data concerning cancer risks in different work environments.

Spin‐Dependent Generation of Surface‐Bound Radicals Toward Selective and Long‐Lasting Water Purification

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops a novel atomic engineering strategy to fine‐tune the spin state of α‐Fe2O3 catalysts toward a medium‐spin state, thereby modulating peroxymonosulfate activation and selectively yielding surface‐bound radicals. Compared with free radicals, surface‐bound radicals exhibit moderated oxidation potential, extended lifespan, surface ...

Presence of nitrosamine impurities in medicinal products

open access: yesArhiv za Higijenu Rada i Toksikologiju, 2021
In 2018, some sartan medicinal products were reported to be contaminated with nitrosamine compounds, which are potent mutagenic carcinogens. Two nitrosamines received particular attention: N -nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) and N-nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA ...

Metal–Organic Frameworks for Gaseous Pollutant Management: From Capture to Neutralization and Reutilization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review maps how MOFs can manage hazardous gases by combining adsorption, neutralization, and reutilization, enabling sustainable air‐pollution control. Covering chemical warfare agent simulants, SO2, NOx, NH3, H2S, and volatile organic compounds, it highlights structure‐guided strategies that boost selectivity, water tolerance, and cycling ...

In silico Assessment of Pharmacological Profile of Low Molecular Weight Oligo-Hydroxyalkanoates

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2020
Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are a large class of polyesters that are biosynthesized by microorganisms at large molecular weights (Mw > 80 kDa) and have a great potential for medical applications because of their recognized biocompatibility.

MMVFs Onboard Ships: From an Observational Study to the Development of MMVFs Safety Plans

open access: yesMedical Sciences Forum, 2022
Man-made vitreous fibers (MMVFs) are widely used in shipbuilding. Some MMVFs are “suspected of causing cancer” in Annex VI of Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 and can be easily found in ships (asbestos free or not ones).

Characterization of Microplastics in Human Gastric Cancer and Control Tissues and Analysis of Associated Genetic Features

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study characterizes the presence of microplastics in human normal gastric, para‐tumor, and gastric tumor tissue and confirms the association between microplastic exposure and lymph node metastasis in gastric cancer. This study explores the transcriptomic changes induced by microplastic exposure, laying the foundation for further investigation into
