Recent perspectives of epithelial ovarian carcinoma

open access: yesOncology Letters, 2016
Epithelial ovarian tumours have been reported to mainly arise from the simple cuboidal surface epithelium of the ovary, and account for 75% of all ovarian tumours, and 90–95% of ovarian malignancies.

Afatinib use in recurrent epithelial ovarian carcinoma. [PDF]

open access: yesGynecologic Oncology Reports, 2019
•Genomic tumor testing is an important tool in guiding treatment for gynecologic malignancies.•Targetable mutations may lead to new therapies in gynecologic cancer treatment.•Her2/neu mutations in serous ovarian carcinomas can be targeted with ERBB2 ...

Mucinous epithelial ovarian carcinoma.

open access: yesAnnals of Oncology, 2016
Mucinous tumours involving the ovary may be benign, borderline, or malignant. Malignant tumours may be primary or metastatic. Differentiation between primary and metastatic involvement of the ovary is critical for optimal patient management. Even among skilled pathologists, this distinction can be problematic, as can the distinction between borderline ...

Aflibercept in Epithelial Ovarian Carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesFuture Oncology, 2009
Angiogenesis is a hallmark of malignant transformation. With improved understanding of angiogenic signaling in both the normal and malignant state, there have been a number of agents developed that target VEGF signaling. These targeted agents can affect downstream VEGF signal transduction via unique mechanisms at different cellular and extracellular ...

Epithelial–Mesenchymal Transition in Ovarian Carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2012
Ovarian cancer is the most lethal gynecologic malignancy, with the majority of patients dying within 5 years of diagnosis. This poor survival of patients diagnosed with this malignancy is attributed to diagnosis at advanced stage, when the tumor has metastasized, and to chemotherapy resistance, either primary or developing along tumor progression ...

Histone deacetylases as new therapy targets for platinum-resistant epithelial ovarian cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Introduction: In developed countries, ovarian cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women. Due to the nonspecific symptomatology associated with the disease many patients with ovarian cancer are diagnosed late, which leads to significantly poorer ...

Gene expression in epithelial ovarian carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesOncogene, 2002
We analysed the mRNA levels corresponding to 12,600 transcripts in primary cultures of ovarian epithelial cells derived from nine normal ovaries and 21 epithelial ovarian carcinoma. The class distinction and hierarchical clustering of expression data revealed a clear distinction in gene expression between normal and carcinoma-derived ovarian epithelial

HE4 in the differential diagnosis of ovarian masses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Ovarian masses, a common finding among pre- and post-menopausal women, can be benign or malignant. Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death from gynecologic malignancy among women living in industrialized countries.

Lysophosphatidic acid-induced transcriptional profile represents serous epithelial ovarian carcinoma and worsened prognosis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2009
BACKGROUND:Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) governs a number of physiologic and pathophysiological processes. Malignant ascites fluid is rich in LPA, and LPA receptors are aberrantly expressed by ovarian cancer cells, implicating LPA in the initiation and ...

Distant metastases in epithelial ovarian carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesCancer, 1987
A review of 255 patients with epithelial ovarian carcinoma revealed that metastases consistent with Stage IV disease developed in 97 patients (38.0%) at some time during the natural history of their disease. Malignant pleural effusions developed in 63 patients (24.7%), and their median survival (from the time of diagnosis of the effusion) was 6 months.
