Clinical Insights Into Hypercalcemia of Malignancy in Childhood
ABSTRACT Hypercalcemia of malignancy (HCM) is a rare but life‐threatening metabolic emergency in children that occurs in less than 1% of pediatric cancer cases, with a reported incidence ranging from 0.4% to 1.0% across different studies. While it is observed in 10%–20% of adult malignancies, pediatric HCM remains relatively uncommon.

Performance evaluation of a pulsatile ventricular assist device under non physiologic pumping frequencies by means FEM and 2D approach [PDF]
A ventricular assist device (VAD) is a blood pump that works in parallel with heart. It is used as a mechanical assistance for patients that suffer cardiac insufficiency: as a therapy, as a bridge to transplant or to extend life.

Motion estimation of vortical blood flow within the right atrium in a patient with atrial septal defect [PDF]
Copyright © 2007 IEEEPatients with an atrial septal defect (ASD) have a left to right shunt with associated complications. Currently, various imaging modalities, including echocardiography and invasive cardiac catheterization, are utilized in the ...

Reduced reactive hyperemia may explain impaired flow‐mediated dilation after on‐pump cardiac surgery
In previous studies, Flow Mediated Dilation (FMD) was used to study the effect of cardiac surgery on endothelial function. This study investigated the effect of on‐pump cardiac surgery on FMD and reactive hyperemia.

Dynamics of Pulsed Flow in an Elastic Tube [PDF]
Internal haemorrhage, often leading to cardio-vascular arrest happens to be one of the prime sources of high fatality rates in mammals. We propose a simplistic model of fluid flow to specify the location of the haemorrhagic spots, which, if located ...

ZFAS1 is a lncRNA promoting cell proliferation and migration, exhibiting high expression in various cancers. It is conserved, widely expressed, and produces multiple splice variants with unclear roles. We identified several splice variants in hepatocyte models, and found that inhibiting or suppressing regulators of the unfolded protein response (PERK ...

Influence of cardiac decentralization on cardioprotection. [PDF]
The role of cardiac nerves on development of myocardial tissue injury after acute coronary occlusion remains controversial. We investigated whether acute cardiac decentralization (surgical) modulates coronary flow reserve and myocardial protection in ...

Characterization of Left Ventricle Main Flow Axis Line Using Echodynamography
Left ventricular (LV) blood flow analysis may play an essential role in evaluating cardiac function besides the classical analysis of wall motion. Echodynamography is an imaging method in which two-dimensional (2D) blood flow vectors are deduced by blood
