Narrative Review on History of Point‐of‐Care Ultrasound Training in Critical Care

open access: yesAustralasian Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine, Volume 29, Issue 3, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction/Purpose Point‐of‐care ultrasound (PoCUS) has evolved from bulky radiology‐based machines to a core bedside tool in critical care. Training processes have shifted from informal apprenticeship to structured curricula, yet challenges in standardisation, competence assessment and accreditation persist.

Dexamethasone Versus Placebo in Comatose Survivors of Out‐of‐Hospital Cardiac Arrest: Study Protocol for a Multicenter Randomized Comparison Within the Danish Out‐of‐Hospital Cardiac Arrest Trial (DANOHCA)

open access: yesActa Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, Volume 70, Issue 7, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background The inflammatory response to whole‐body ischemia, as seen in comatose survivors after out‐of‐hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA), is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Early high‐dose dexamethasone may dampen the inflammatory response, which may diminish secondary brain damage and other organ injury and decrease mortality.

Quantitative effects of mechanical cardiopulmonary resuscitation devices in rural American emergency medical services: a retrospective cohort study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Emergency Medicine
Background Emergency medical service agencies increasingly utilize medical devices which perform external chest compressions during cardiac arrest. Due to the unique staffing and budget considerations of the rural emergency medical services environment ...

The Danish Out‐of‐Hospital Cardiac Arrest Trial: A Statistical Analysis Plan

open access: yesActa Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, Volume 70, Issue 7, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Post‐cardiac arrest care for patients resuscitated from out‐of‐hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) includes multiple pharmacological and physiological interventions, yet optimal strategies to reduce post‐cardiac arrest syndrome–related morbidity and mortality remain uncertain.

Prophylactic Olanzapine Versus Placebo in Comatose Survivors of Out‐of‐Hospital Cardiac Arrest: Protocol for a Multicenter Randomized Comparison Within the Danish Out‐of‐Hospital Cardiac Arrest (DANOHCA) Trial

open access: yesActa Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, Volume 70, Issue 7, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Delirium is a frequent complication in comatose Out‐of‐Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) survivors requiring postresuscitation intensive care and is associated with higher mortality and longer hospitalization. Despite this, there is no established pharmacologic strategy for delirium prevention in OHCA survivors.

Population Pharmacokinetics of Ticagrelor during Veno‐Arterial ECMO in Acute Coronary Syndrome: Model‐Informed Dosing Simulations

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, Volume 120, Issue 1, Page 193-202, July 2026.
Although patients with acute coronary syndrome supported by veno‐arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA‐ECMO) have a high risk of thrombosis and bleeding, antiplatelet pharmacology in this setting is not well defined. This prospective observational study investigated the population pharmacokinetics of ticagrelor and its active metabolite AR ...

A 12‐week Exercise Intervention Among Older Adults With Chronic Coronary Syndrome: Changes and Associations of Movement Behaviors and Cardiovascular Risk Factors

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Sport Science, Volume 26, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Physical activity (PA) is key to improve the prognosis of patients with chronic coronary syndrome (CCS). This study investigated changes in movement behaviors (MB), obesity markers, cardiorespiratory fitness (VO2peak), cardiometabolic risk (CMR), and brain‐derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and whether changes in MB are associated with VO2peak,

JAK Inhibition in PNPT1‐Related Mitochondrial Interferonopathy: A Case Report and Review of Mitochondrial–Immune Crosstalk

open access: yesJIMD Reports, Volume 67, Issue 4, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Biallelic pathogenic variants in PNPT1 cause combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency 13 (COXPD13) (MIM #614932), linking mitochondrial dysfunction to type I interferon (IFN) activation through cytosolic leakage of mitochondrial double‐stranded RNA (mt‐dsRNA).
