Iron‐dependent lysosomal LDL oxidation induces the expression of scavenger receptor A in human THP‐1 monocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In human monocytic cells THP‐1, a limited uptake of native—not oxidized—LDL/VLDL induced expression of scavenger receptor A and cellular adhesion. Induction was inhibited by lysosomotropic (WR‐1065) and lipophilic (BHT) antioxidants and by siRNAs against ferritinophagy.

Association between pulse wave velocity and the 10‐year risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in the Chinese population: A community‐based study

open access: yesThe Journal of Clinical Hypertension, 2023
Accumulated evidence has shown that carotid‐femoral and brachial‐ankle PWV well predict cardiovascular events but it is still unclear if the predictability is same or not.

Current trends in single‐cell RNA sequencing applications in diabetes mellitus

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Single‐cell RNA sequencing is a powerful approach to decipher the cellular and molecular landscape at a single‐cell resolution. The rapid development of this technology has led to a wide range of applications, including the detection of cellular and molecular mechanisms and the identification and introduction of novel potential diagnostic and ...

Fruit and vegetable intake and the risk of cardiovascular disease, total cancer and all-cause mortality—a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis of prospective studies

open access: yesInternational Journal of Epidemiology, 2017
Background: Questions remain about the strength and shape of the dose-response relationship between fruit and vegetable intake and risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer and mortality, and the effects of specific types of fruit and vegetables.

Microbiome and Cardiovascular Disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
AbstractAtherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is a prime example of a systems disease. In the initial phase, apolipoprotein B-containing cholesterol-rich lipoproteins deposit excess cholesterol in macrophage-like cells that subsequently develop into foam cells.

An efficient strategy for producing RNA‐free Nucleocapsid protein of SARS‐CoV‐2 for biochemical and structural investigations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cleavable N‐terminal Thioredoxin fusion enabled soluble expression and purification of otherwise insoluble SARS‐CoV‐2 Nucleocapsid (N) protein. A four‐step purification strategy yielded highly homogeneous, RNA‐free N protein. Binding assays showed high RNA affinity (Kd ~ 28 nm). The study will facilitate high‐resolution structural studies of N protein,

Treatment of stump complications after above-knee amputation using negative-pressure wound therapy [PDF]

open access: yesSrpski Arhiv za Celokupno Lekarstvo, 2016
Introduction. The stump wound complications after above-knee amputation lead to other problems, such as prolonged rehabilitation, delayed prosthetic restoration, the increase in total treatment cost and high mortality rates. Objective.

Dapagliflozin and Cardiovascular Outcomes in Type 2 Diabetes

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2019
BACKGROUND The cardiovascular safety profile of dapagliflozin, a selective inhibitor of sodium–glucose cotransporter 2 that promotes glucosuria in patients with type 2 diabetes, is undefined. METHODS We randomly assigned patients with type 2 diabetes who

UR‐cycleGAN: Denoising full‐body low‐dose PET images using cycle‐consistent Generative Adversarial Networks

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This study aims to develop a CycleGAN based denoising model to enhance the quality of low‐dose PET (LDPET) images, making them as close as possible to standard‐dose PET (SDPET) images. Methods Using a Philips Vereos PET/CT system, whole‐body PET images of fluorine‐18 fluorodeoxyglucose (18F‐FDG) were acquired from 37 patients to ...
