Predictive accuracy of systolic blood pressure to left ventricular end-diastolic pressure ratio versus TIMI score for short-term mortality after primary percutaneous coronary intervention [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Research
Introduction: Aim of this study was to evaluate the predictive performance of systolic blood pressure (SBP) to left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP) ratio for the prediction of in-hospital and short-term mortality in a contemporary cohort of ...

Six-months success of radiofrequency ablation in cardiac arrhythmias treatment: Experience of our centre [PDF]

open access: yesVojnosanitetski Pregled, 2019
Background/Aim. Numerous trials have shown a high success of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in the treatment of the patients with cardiac arrhythmias. We aimed to examine the RFA initial success in treatment of different cardiac arrhythmias and the RFA ...

Microbiome and Cardiovascular Disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
AbstractAtherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is a prime example of a systems disease. In the initial phase, apolipoprotein B-containing cholesterol-rich lipoproteins deposit excess cholesterol in macrophage-like cells that subsequently develop into foam cells.

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Bioabsorbable bypass grafts biofunctionalised with RGD have enhanced biophysical properties and endothelialisation tested in vivo

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2016
Small diameter arterial bypass grafts are considered as unmet clinical need since the current grafts have poor patency of 25% within 5 years. We have developed a 3D scaffold manufactured from natural and synthetic biodegradable polymers, poly(3 ...

COPD and Cardiovascular Disease

open access: yesPulmonology, 2019
COPD is one of the major public health problems in people aged 40 years or above. It is currently the 4th leading cause of death in the world and projected to be the 3rd leading cause of death by 2020. COPD and cardiac comorbidities are frequently associated.

Isolevuglandins and cardiovascular disease [PDF]

open access: yesProstaglandins & Other Lipid Mediators, 2018
Isolevuglandins are 4-ketoaldehydes formed by peroxidation of arachidonic acid. Isolevuglandins react rapidly with primary amines including the lysyl residues of proteins to form irreversible covalent modifications. This review highlights evidence for the potential role of isolevuglandin modification in the disease processes, especially atherosclerosis,

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.
