Association between BMI measured within a year after diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and mortality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
OBJECTIVE: To describe the association of BMI with mortality in patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Using records of 106,640 patients in Scotland, we investigated the association between BMI recorded around the diagnosis

Magnetic Micro‐ and Nanorobots for Precision Thrombolysis: Design Strategies and Translational Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Micro‐ and nanorobots for targeted thrombolysis. This perspective elaborates on the clinical indication of blood clot disorders and current limitations for treatment. As a novel, alternative solution, micro‐ and nanorobots can be used to treat and break down thrombi.

Association of Cardiovascular Health Metrics and Mortality Among Individuals With and Without Cancer.

open access: yes
Although metrics of cardiovascular health have been associated with improved mortality, whether the association remains among individuals with a history of cancer has not been well characterized.

Gut Microbiota Regulates Systemic Inflammatory Response and Compensatory Anti‐Inflammatory Response Syndromes by Targeting PF4+ Macrophages in Acute Pancreatitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Acute pancreatitis (AP) begins with pancreatic local inflammation, leading to the onset of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), followed by compensatory anti‐inflammatory response syndrome (CARS), which causes immune paralysis and higher mortality rate.

TRMT6‐Mediated m1A Modification of CDK9 mRNA Is a Dual‐Pronged Pathogenic Driver for HBV‐Related Hepatocellular Carcinoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
TRMT6‐mediated m1A modification in CDK9 mRNA enhances its mRNA stability and translation efficiency, thereby increasing the protein levels of CDK9. Upregulated CDK9 promotes the progression of HCC by elevating the levels of oncogenic factors including p‐STAT3, MCL1, and BCL‐2. On the other hand, CDK9 phosphorylates TARDBP at Ser254 to activate HBV core

Long-term lifestyle and dietary habits in relation to cardiovascular mortality and life expectancy: a prospective cohort study

open access: yes, 2009
Introduction: In prospective cohort studies, information on lifestyle and dietary habits is generally only assessed at the baseline examination, assuming that these habits are relatively constant over the entire study period.

Adipocyte‐Derived Leptolin Enhances Energy Expenditure and Prevents Obesity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We identified a novel adipokine, which we named leptolin. In humans, leptolin levels in white adipose tissue were positively correlated with exercise and negatively associated with body mass index. We observed elevated leptolin in serum from athletes and lower leptolin in serum from obese individuals.

Employment of the Albumin to Alkaline Phosphatase Ratio to Predict All-cause Mortality and Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Mortality in Adults Aged At Least 60 Years: An Analysis From NHANES 2003–2018

open access: yesReviews in Cardiovascular Medicine
Background: The relationship between the albumin-to-alkaline phosphatase ratio (AAPR) and all-cause and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular mortalities, in adults aged 60 years and above, remains unclear.

CD4+ Tregs Drive Post‐Ischemic Sprouting Angiogenesis via Endothelial YY1/MAML1 Reactivation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Microvascular complications of diabetes are chronic diseases of small vessels. We previously found that CD4+ regulatory T‐cells (Tregs) are markedly reduced in type 2 diabetes (T2D) after ischemic injury in both mice and humans, and that Treg deficiency in immunodeficient mice impairs vascular regeneration.
