Fish Advisories: Useful Or Difficult to Interpret? [PDF]
The authors note that fish and shellfish offer significant exposure to environmental toxins but find that consumer knowledge and other factors may limit efforts to control risk in urban ...

New perspectives on head and neck allometry and ecomorphology in tetrapods
ABSTRACT The skull and neck are vital parts of the body, influencing feeding ecology, habitat exploitation and locomotion. Numerous studies have therefore sought to understand how the size of these segments vary with ecology and scale with overall body size.

Increased tolerance to humans among disturbed wildlife. [PDF]
Human disturbance drives the decline of many species, both directly and indirectly. Nonetheless, some species do particularly well around humans. One mechanism that may explain coexistence is the degree to which a species tolerates human disturbance ...

Nitrogen excretion and oxygen consumption under severe hypoxia in siluriform fishes from the Amazon
Abstract Siluriform fishes collected from the Rio Negro and Rio Solimões proved to be highly resistant to aquatic hypoxia. In all four species analysed in this study, aquatic oxygen consumption significantly decreased from normoxic levels at water PO2 values near 1 kPa. Air‐breathing activity was observed only in Sturisoma sp. (Rio Negro).

Levels of digestible protein to surubim (Pseudoplatystoma sp.) reared in net cages
The Pseudoplatystoma sp. is species of carnivorous fish that require special attention in the diet offered. This work had the objective to determine the digestible protein requirement of juvenile the Pseudoplatystoma sp. reared in net cages.

Algal cover in mangroves affects distribution and predation rates by carnivorous fishes
Abstract Distribution and survival of fish are influenced by benthic habitat and complexity. While many studies have investigated the effects of algal cover on fishes in reef habitats, comparatively less is known regarding this relationship in mangrove habitats.

Abstract The branchial epithelium of Potamotrygon—a member of the only strictly freshwater elasmobranch family Potamotrygonidae—was observed via immunohistochemistry, and two distinct forms of ionocytes were identified. The acid (A‐type) and base (B‐type) secreting cells with respective basolateral–apical localizations of Na+/K+‐ATPase–Na+/H+ exchanger

Abstract Circadian processes are key drivers of animal behaviour, influencing patterns of activity, resource partitioning and competition avoidance. Studies evaluating circadian changes on the structure of marine assemblages are lacking, especially for reef fish.
