The Carotid Body a Common Denominator for Cardiovascular and Metabolic Dysfunction?
The carotid body is a highly vascularized organ designed to monitor oxygen levels. Reducing oxygen levels in blood results in increased activity of the carotid body cells and reflex increases in sympathetic nerve activity.

Carotid Body Tumour: A Rare Case Report [PDF]
Carotid Body Tumour (CBT) is a uncommon tumour which arises from a chemoreceptor tissue, which is present at the bifurcation of common carotid arteries. Not many case reports have been reported for carotid body tumours. We report an unusual case of a

High fat diet blunts the effects of leptin on ventilation and on carotid body activity
Leptin plays a role in the control of breathing, acting mainly on central nervous system; however, leptin receptors have been recently shown to be expressed in the carotid body (CB), and this finding suggests a physiological role for leptin in the ...

Surface Metrology of Cerebral Arteries Luminal Surface [PDF]
Atherosclerotic lesions within carotid and cerebral vessels are likely to influence hemodynamics and manifest into vascular pathologies, including Alzheimers Disease and ischemic stroke. Hemodynamics are influenced by changes in luminal diameter of vessels and wall shear stress derived from turbulence, which directly relates to the surface topography ...

Ageing of the carotid body [PDF]
AbstractThe ageing process is characterized by a decline in several physiological functions resulting in a reduced capability to maintain homeostasis. The lowered homeostatic capacity seems to involve the carotid body (CB), whose role is to modulate ventilation and tissue oxygen supply. It thus plays a prime role in all ageing processes.

Coexistence of a Carotid Body Tumor and Thyroglossal Duct Carcinoma With Cervical Lymph Node Metastasis [PDF]
Thyroglossal duct carcinoma is uncommon, occurring in approximately 1% of all thyroglossal duct remnants. This rare neoplasm is characterized by relatively nonaggressive behavior with infrequent lymph nodal spread.

Role of carotid body for neuronal protection in experimental subarachnoid haemorrhage [PDF]
Objective: Carotid bodies are known as main arterialchemoregulatory units. Despite well known that carotidbodies have an important role in cerebral circulation andblood pH regulation, their roles has not been investigatedin subarachnoid haemorrhage.

Carotid body: a metabolic sensor implicated in insulin resistance.
The carotid body is now looked at as a multipurpose sensor for blood gases, blood pH, and several hormones. The matter of glucose sensing by the carotid body has been debated for several years in the literature, and these days there is a consensus that ...

Classification of Pressure Gradient of Human Common Carotid Artery and Ascending Aorta on the Basis of Age and Gender [PDF]
The current work is done to see which artery has more chance of having cardiovascular diseases by measuring value of pressure gradient in the common carotid artery (CCA) and ascending aorta according to age and gender. Pressure gradient is determined in the CCA and ascending aorta of presumed healthy volunteers, having age between 10 and 60 years.

Abstract Objective This study sought to evaluate the feasibility of multifunctional gastrodin (GAS)‐containing nano‐drug carrier system against cerebral ischemia–reperfusion injury (CIRI). Methods The drug‐loaded nanocomposite (Au‐G5.NHAc‐PS/GAS) with certain encapsulation efficiency (EE) was prepared by physical adsorption method using different ...
