Impact of severe periodontitis and diabetes mellitus on recurrent cardiovascular outcomes

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background This post hoc analysis of the Periodontitis and Coronary Heart Disease study (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT01045070) aimed to determine the association between diabetes and recurrent cardiovascular events (CVEs) in patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and severe periodontitis.

A Carotid Stenosis Model in Canines

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Surgery, 2001
A carotid stenosis model was developed in canines in order to study the effects of systemic blood pressure and hemodilution on cerebrovascular perfusion and metabolism during cardiopulmonary bypass in the setting of significant coexistent inflow stenosis.

Cognitive and emotional effects of carotid stenosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
PRINCIPLES Patients with carotid artery stenosis (CAS) are at risk of ipsilateral stroke and chronic compromise of cerebral blood flow. It is under debate whether the hypo-perfusion or embolism in CAS is directly related to cognitive impairment ...

Neuroprotective effects of quercetin in animal models of neurodegenerative diseases: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract Neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease are characterized by progressive neuronal loss driven by oxidative stress and inflammation. Quercetin, a dietary flavonoid with established antioxidant and anti‐inflammatory properties, has emerged as a potential neuroprotective agent.

Long-term outcomes of stenting and endarterectomy for symptomatic carotid stenosis: a preplanned pooled analysis of individual patient data

open access: yes, 2019
Background: The risk of periprocedural stroke or death is higher after carotid artery stenting (CAS) than carotid endarterectomy (CEA) for the treatment of symptomatic carotid stenosis. However, long-term outcomes have not been sufficiently assessed.

Impact of Proton Pump Inhibitor Use on Outcomes Following Carotid Artery Stenting for Asymptomatic Carotid Stenosis: A Population‐Based Cohort Study

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Carotid artery stenting (CAS) is an effective treatment for carotid stenosis. Proton‐pump inhibitors (PPIs) are commonly prescribed in the general population. However, the impact of PPI use on outcomes following CAS remains unknown. This study investigated the impact of PPI use on CAS using a retrospective, matched‐cohort analysis from the ...

Research progress of noninvasive high - resolution magnetic resonance imaging in carotid atherosclerotic plaque

open access: yesChinese Journal of Contemporary Neurology and Neurosurgery, 2017
Carotid atherosclerotic stenosis is closely related to recurrent ischemic stroke. Currently, therapies for carotid artery stenosis are mainly intensive medication or surgery, including carotid artery stenting (CAS) and carotid endarterectomy (CEA ...

The size of juxtaluminal hypoechoic area in ultrasound images of asymptomatic carotid plaques predicts the occurrence of stroke.

open access: yes, 2013
OBJECTIVE: To test the hypothesis that the size of a juxtaluminal black (hypoechoic) area (JBA) in ultrasound images of asymptomatic carotid artery plaques predicts future ipsilateral ischemic stroke.

Endoscopic Suture Ligation and Sclerotherapy for Pharyngolaryngeal Venous Malformation

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This study evaluated suture ligation combined with sclerotherapy in 53 patients with pharyngolaryngeal venous malformations. A single procedure achieved complete resolution in 79.25% of cases, with no serious complications or need for prophylactic tracheostomy.
