Multiple Dislocations of the Carpometacarpal Joints

Journal of Hand Surgery, 1986
A case of multiple dislocations of the carpometacarpal joints associated with low energy trauma is reported. Open reduction and internal fixation has produced a good result.

Revision Thumb Carpometacarpal Arthroplasty

Hand Clinics, 2022
Revision thumb carpometacarpal (CMC) arthroplasty alleviates persistent pain and instability after nonimplant or implant CMC arthroplasty. Metacarpal subsidence onto the scaphoid causing impingement, missed diagnosis such as scaphotrapezoid arthritis, and metacarpophalangeal hyperextension are common causes of failed CMC arthroplasty.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Carpometacarpal Instability

Hand Clinics, 2022
Hypermobility of the first CMC joint may adversely affect hand function and may lead to osteoarthritis later in life. It presents more commonly in younger women with generalized joint hypermobility or postmenopausal women with early stages of arthritis. It may follow trauma and deletive surgical interventions.

Treatment of Advanced Carpometacarpal Joint Disease: Carpometacarpal Arthroplasty with Ligament Interposition

Hand Clinics, 2008
Basal joint arthritis is a common condition, primarily affecting postmenopausal women. Persistent pain and functional impairment despite conservative treatment are indications for operative intervention. Ligament reconstruction and tendon interposition (LRTI) arthroplasty is one of the most popular and time-tested operations to treat metacarpal ...

Chronic sprains of the carpometacarpal joints

The Journal of Hand Surgery, 1981
The relatively rigid second and third carpometacarpal joints provide stability for the cantilevered metacarpals of the index and middle fingers, about which the thumb and ulnar metacarpals move, providing spatial adaptation for grasping objects. Although seldom recognized, sprains of the carpometacarpal joints as part of a range of injury which ...

Axial ulnar carpometacarpal disruption

Injury, 2003
Carpal injuries resulting from antero-posterior compression forces demonstrate unusual axial fracture–dislocation patterns. This distinctive injury was first described by Oberst in 1901 [1] and involves a traumatic longitudinal disruption of the carpus and its respective metacarpals.

Osteoarthritis of the carpometacarpal joint of the thumb

The American Journal of Surgery, 1969
Abstract Osteoarthritis of the carpal-metacarpal joint of the thumb is not rare and can severely disable the use of the hand because of pain. It is more common in women and frequently bilateral. The various operative technics are presented in detail.

Carpometacarpal dislocations.

Critical reviews in diagnostic imaging, 1984
Dislocations at the carpometacarpal joints are uncommon and can be overlooked due to the subtle nature of the radiographic findings. The diagnosis requires a proper understanding of the normal radiographic anatomy of the carpometacarpal joints. To aid in our understanding of the injury, anatomic dissections of the hand were performed.

Arthrodesis of the Carpometacarpal Joint of the Thumb

Acta chirurgiae orthopaedicae et traumatologiae Cechoslovaca, 2006
Arthrodesis of the carpometacarpal (CMC) joint of the thumb is an option for treatment of degenerative and post-traumatic conditions affecting the CMC thumb joint. This procedure is indicated most frequently in patients with primary or secondary stage III rhizarthritis (by the Eaton classification of basal joint arthritis) of idiopathic, rheumatic or ...
