Pre‐Flowering Heat Wave Sensitivity on Yield and Its Components in Two Spring Barley Near‐Isogenic Lines for PPD‐H1 Alleles

open access: yesJournal of Agronomy and Crop Science, Volume 212, Issue 5, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Rising temperatures associated with climate change increasingly threaten cereal yields. Most previous studies have focused on chronic high temperatures, which primarily affect yield indirectly through modifications of crop phenology. In contrast, the effects of short‐term heat waves on reproductive development and yield formation remain poorly

RGF signaling bridges root development and nonlethal thermal stress adaptation

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 251, Issue 5, Page 2656-2671, September 2026.
Nonlethal high temperature inhibits root growth. Summary Roots adapt to growth‐restricting but nonlethal high temperatures. Although lethal heat shock and moderately elevated temperatures have been extensively studied, the effects of nonlethal thermal stress on root development remain unclear.

Exposure to Crime and Perceptions of Crime in Major U.S. Cities

open access: yesSocial Science Quarterly, Volume 107, Issue 5, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective Address three questions: (1) To what extent are direct victimization and contextual exposure to crime related to people's perceptions of crime in their neighborhoods? (2) Does the type of crime matter? (3) Do the effects of exposure to in one place “spillover” to evaluations of other areas?

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 20, Issue 8, Page 2008-2022, August 2026.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.
