The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Group B Streptococcus (GBS) Carriage in Pregnant Women: Possible Emergence of Rare Serotypes and Antibiotic Resistance in Neonatal Disease

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Maternal vaginal and rectal colonization by Streptococcus agalactiae (group B streptococcus, GBS) is the main risk factor for the development of newborn early-onset GBS disease (GBS-EOD).

SEASONAL FEATURES OF THE MICROBIAL LANDSCAPE OF PALATINE TONSILS IN HEALTHY STUDENTS

open access: yesЖурнал микробиологии, эпидемиологии и иммунобиологии, 2018
Aim.To find out microbial landscape characteristics of the palatine tonsils in healthy students, depending on the season. Materials and methods. It were examined 40 students without any oropharyngeal pathology aged 17-30 (23 ± 3.5).

Skin carriage of the Micrococcaceae [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Pathology, 1969
The micrococcal flora of the skin of 382 children and 378 adults have been investigated using a scheme derived from the work of Baird-Parker (1963). The predominant groups are Staphylococcus type 2 and Micrococcus type 2. Some differences in the carriage at different sites have been found: in general the nose, axillae, groin, and toe webs have a ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Community carriage of ESBL-producing Escherichia coli is associated with strains of low pathogenicity: a Swedish nationwide study

open access: yesJournal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, 2017
Objectives Community carriage of ESBL-producing Escherichia coli (EPE) is common worldwide and there is a need to understand the connection between carriage and infection.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Antibody responses to nasopharyngeal carriage of Streptococcus pneumoniae in adults: A longitudinal household study

open access: yes, 2005
Background. Natural immunity to Streptococcus pneumoniae is thought to be induced by exposure to S. pneumoniae or cross-reactive antigens. No longitudinal studies of carriage of and immune responses to S.
