Growth Factor‐Loaded Mesoporous Silica Particles, Incorporated in Electrospun PCL Fibres, Provide Topographical and Chemical Cues for Tendon Tissue Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Electrospinning enables the hierarchical assembly of nanofiber‐based scaffolds for tissue engineering. However, encapsulated proteins often undergo structural changes. This study used mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) as protective carriers, mitigating protein denaturation and supporting controlled release.

Two-year post-distraction cartilage-related structural improvement is accompanied by increased serum full-length SIRT1

open access: yesArthritis Research & Therapy
Background Previously, fragments from Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) were identified in preclinical and clinical samples to display an increase in serum levels for N-terminal (NT) SIRT1 vs. C-terminal (CT) SIRT1, indicative of early signs of OA.

T1rho Fractional-order Relaxation of Human Articular Cartilage [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
T1rho imaging is a promising non-invasive diagnostic tool for early detection of articular cartilage degeneration. A mono-exponential model is normally used to describe the T1rho relaxation process. However, mono-exponentials may not adequately to describe NMR relaxation in complex, heterogeneous, and anisotropic materials, such as articular cartilage.

Accelerated Bone Healing via Electrical Stimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Electrical stimulation significantly impacts bone healing by enhancing osteoblast proliferation, differentiation, and vascularization through calmodulin/calcineurin/NFAT signaling. It also boosts macrophage function and cell migration, presenting a comprehensive approach to accelerating bone repair.

Knee Cartilage Segmentation Using Diffusion-Weighted MRI [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
The integrity of articular cartilage is a crucial aspect in the early diagnosis of osteoarthritis (OA). Many novel MRI techniques have the potential to assess compositional changes of the cartilage extracellular matrix. Among these techniques, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) of cartilage provides a simultaneous assessment of the two principal components

Genome‐Wide Silencer Screening Reveals Key Silencer Modulating Reprogramming Efficiency in Mouse Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study utilized Ss‐STARR‐seq to construct a genome‐wide silencer map of mouse cells and elucidated the fundamental characteristics of these silencers. These silencers exist in a cell‐specific manner and exhibit unique epigenetic modifications. Through functional experiments, we also discovered that these silencers can regulate gene expression and ...

MACI Sandwich Technique With Autologous Bone Graft

open access: yesVideo Journal of Sports Medicine
Background: Osteochondral lesions of the knee are difficult to manage. Such lesions can be effectively treated with the matrix-induced autologous chondrocyte implantation (MACI) “sandwich” technique using autologous chondrocytes on porcine collagen ...
