Identifying mothers and fathers of children in care using linked administrative data

open access: yesInternational Journal of Population Data Science
Objectives There are challenges carrying out administrative data research on parents of children in the care system, particularly fathers, because of difficulties in linkage.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Transitions from child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) for young people with social care needs in Wales

open access: yesInternational Journal of Population Data Science
Childhood to adulthood transitions are often characterised by instability and increased support needs, particularly for young people involved with mental health and social care services.

Adaptor protein CIN85 potentiates the motility of osteosarcoma cells via the Akt/mTOR and MMP2‐COL3A1 axis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CIN85 is highly expressed in osteosarcoma, particularly in metastatic lesions. Its overexpression increases cell migration and Matrigel invasion, while silencing CIN85 suppresses these behaviors. Transcriptome analysis shows that CIN85 regulates MMP2, COL3A1, and Akt/mTOR signaling. Targeting these pathways reverses CIN85‐induced motility, highlighting

The increases in children entering public care in Wales: What does linked administrative data tell us?

open access: yesInternational Journal of Population Data Science
Objectives To find out whether the increases in children entering care are related to either increases in parental risk factors for care entry and/or any changes in the impact that a parental risk factors have on the likelihood of care.

Integrating Two-Stage Phase Change Material Thermal Storage for Cascaded Waste Heat Recovery of Diesel-Engine-Powered Distributed Generation Systems: A Case Study

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
Thermal energy storage using the latent heat of phase change materials (PCMs) is a promising technique to solve the time mismatch between the availability and usage of flue gas heat in distributed generation systems (DGSs).

Asymmetric Pruning for Learning Cascade Detectors

open access: yes, 2014
Cascade classifiers are one of the most important contributions to real-time object detection. Nonetheless, there are many challenging problems arising in training cascade detectors.

Tumor‐stromal crosstalk and macrophage enrichment are associated with chemotherapy response in bladder cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemoresistance in bladder cancer: Macrophage recruitment associated with CXCL1, CXCL5 and CXCL8 expression is characteristic of Gemcitabine/Cisplatin (Gem/Cis) Non‐Responder tumors (right side) while Responder tumors did not show substantial tumor‐stromal crosstalk (left side). All biological icons are attributed to Bioicons: carcinoma, cancerous‐cell‐

Enhancement of thrust reverser cascade performance using aerodynamic and structural integration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This paper focuses on the design of a cascade within a cold stream thrust reverser during the early, conceptual stage of the product development process.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐
