Performance of an auto refrigerant cascade refrigerator operating in liquid refrigerant supply (LRS) mode with different cascade heat exchangers

Cryogenics, 2010
Abstract Auto refrigerant cascade (ARC) refrigerators operating with zeotropic mixtures provide refrigeration at temperatures less than 173 K (−100 °C) using a single compressor. Different authors have suggested different cascade heat exchangers for ARC refrigerators.

Selection of suitable natural refrigerants pairs for cascade refrigeration system

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part A: Journal of Power and Energy, 2013
This study presents thermodynamic analyses and optimization of a two-stage cascade system employing a choice of eight natural refrigerants leading to the most suitable refrigerants pair for wide ranges of operating temperatures; the optimal pair was based on best system performance (cooling coefficient of performance) as well as best volumetric cooling

A cycling cascade 3He-4He refrigerator

Physica, 1971
Abstract A new type of cycling 3He-4He refrigerator has been developed, in which cooling takes place due to dilution of 3He in an assembly of several dilution chambers connected in series by capillaries. During each cycle the temperature range from 0.25 K down to 30 mK can be covered.

Synthesis of Mixed Refrigerant Cascade Cycles

Chemical Engineering Communications, 2002
This paper considers the synthesis of refrigeration systems with refrigerant mixtures as working fluids. The employed refrigeration topology encompasses features from industrial liquefaction of natural gas (LNG) systems. This configuration consists of a combination of horizontal and vertical cascades generalizing the vertical cascade of pure ...

New cascades for thermo-chemical refrigeration

International Journal of Thermal Sciences, 2005
A diagrammatical approach for the design of new thermo-chemical cascades for heat management purposes is proposed. The two key elements of this approach are: a method to automatically generate system architectures and a general approach to selecting appropriate materials. It is based on establishing an explicit correspondence between the exergy balance

A Closed-Cycle Cascade Helium Refrigerator

1963
The practical application of masers, cryotrons, superconducting magnets, and other newly developed electronic devices, which must be maintained at extremely low temperatures, requires reliable and compact helium refrigerators. In the development of such refrigerators, several general design criteria should be considered: (1) the system should be ...
