Cascode amplifier: A cautionary tale

2012 8th International Symposium on Communication Systems, Networks & Digital Signal Processing (CSNDSP), 2012
The cascode amplifier has the potential of providing high gain and high bandwidth simultaneously. However, the design is not as intuitive as one might at first think. In this paper we present a detail analysis of the single cascode amplifiers. The relationship between gain and bandwidth is important.

Understanding the cascode switching process

The 1st IEEE Workshop on Wide Bandgap Power Devices and Applications, 2013
Cascode circuits are useful for driving normally-on wide-bandgap devices, but the switching process must be properly understood to optimise their design. Little detailed consideration has previously been given to this. This paper proposes an idealised mathematical description of the cascode switching process, which is used to show that the stray ...

Differential D.C. Cascode amplifier

Medical Electronics & Biological Engineering, 1963
The author emphasizes the most important characteristics of the cascode from the point of view of its usefulness as a biological amplifier: high gain, bandwidth, low input capacitance, small number of components and facility in supplying. A d.c. amplifier with symmetrical cascode as input stage is described.

Wideband Cascode Balun-LNA

2015
This chapter reviews and studies a wideband balun-LNA. This topology is a good solution to implement in an RF receiver because it can be directly coupled to a differential mixer without separate balun or impedance matching networks, while performing noise and distortion cancellation. Since the LNA output is differential, it reduces harmonic distortion,

Fully Differential, Regulated Cascode Amplifier

MELECON 2006 - 2006 IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference, 2006
A fully differential, regulated cascode transimpedance amplifier for applications with high input capacitance is described. It uses a regulated cascode input stage to achieve low input impedance. The input impedance and noise are reduced further by controlling the common-gate stages with the differential input ...

D6. Regulated cascode transimpedance amplifier based on a cascode inverter local feedback

2015 32nd National Radio Science Conference (NRSC), 2015
A new transimpedance amplifier (TIA) topology for 10 Gb/s optical communications is implemented in a standard 130 nm CMOS technology. The proposed TIA is based on a conventional regulated cascade (RGC) topology employing a cascode inverter (CI) as a proposed local feedback.

Introducing Optical Cascode GaN HEMT

IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, 2017
A novel optically activated cascode gallium nitride (GaN) high-electron-mobility transistor (HEMT) is introduced and evaluated in this paper. Furthermore, optical triggering of GaN HEMT structures by cost-effective and high-power long-wavelength light sources is proposed for the first time.

Cascode mixer for multiband wireless

IMPACT-2013, 2013
This paper describes multiband cascode mixer for 2.4 GHz and 5.8GHz wireless LAN applications. The designed mixer has been found to give isolation for LO-to-IF as ≅ −20dB, LO-to-RF as ≅−18dB and RF-to-IF as ≅−13 dB at 2.4GHz, whereas these isolations, at 5.8GHz, were found as ≅−16dB, ≅−14dB and ≅−11.5dB, respectively, with fixed intermediate frequency ...
