Situated Case-Based Reasoning as a Constructive Memory Model for Design Reasoning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This paper describes an extended case-based reasoning model that addresses the notion of situatedness in designing through constructive memory. The model is illustrated through an application for predicting the corrosion rate for a specific material on a

Using Case-Based Reasoning to Focus Model-Based Diagnostic Problem Solving

open access: yes, 1994
The aim of this paper is to present an approach to the integration of Case-Based Reasoning with Model-Based Reasoning in diagnostic problem solving. Such an integration is exploited by defining adaptation criteria on solutions retrieved by a case-based ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

Case-Based Reasoning Systems

open access: yes, 2013
This book reports on a set of recently implemented intelligent systems, having the case-based reasoning (CBR) methodology as their core. The selected works witness the heterogeneity of the domains in which CBR can be exploited, but also reveal some ...

Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

Case-Based Reasoning in Robot Indoor Navigation

open access: yes, 2007
In this paper, we advance a novel approach to the problem of autonomous robot navigation. The environment is a complex indoor scene with very little a priori knowledge, and the navigation task is expressed in terms of natural language directives ...

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.
