Genomic Characteristics and Pathogenicity of Novel Reassortant Mammalian Orthoreoviruses From Sheep, China

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Mammalian orthoreoviruses (MRVs) have a wide geographic distribution worldwide and have been detected from humans and a variety of animal species. This study represents the first isolation of MRV from sheep rectal swabs in China, with analyses of its molecular and pathogenicity characteristics.

Remittances and Livestock Management in Agropastoral Households in Rural Kyrgyzstan: Telecoupled Impacts of Globalization☆

open access: yesRural Sociology, Volume 89, Issue 3, Page 456-482, September 2024.
Abstract Agropastoralism and international labor migration are livelihood strategies that are interconnected as dominant ways of life across rural Kyrgyzstan. A prevalent rural livelihood strategy—agropastoralism—is closely tied to agrarian semi‐nomadic ways of life that link families and communities to the surrounding mountain environment.

Prediction of carcass weight using the morphometry of ankle bones in hair goats

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 10, Issue 4, July 2024.
The study investigated the relationship between age, sex and carcass weight in hair goats through morphometric measurements of the talus and calcaneus bones. Significant correlations were found between bone measurements (GLc and GLt) and carcass weight, with regression models predicting carcass weight with 85% accuracy.

The prolactin receptor: A cross‐species comparison of gene structure, transcriptional regulation, tissue‐specificity, and genetic variation

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, Volume 36, Issue 7, July 2024.
The prolactin receptor has many conserved features across species, and these are all subject to a complex regulation at the level of gene transcription. This figure depicts the structure of different isoforms of the prolactin receptor in representative human, rodent, ungulate, avian, and reptile species.

Integrated analysis of lncRNA and mRNA reveals novel insights into cashmere fineness in Tibetan cashmere goats

open access: yesPeerJ, 2020
Tibetan cashmere goats are famous for producing the finest, softest and lightest cashmere fiber in China. The growth and development of skin are closely related to fineness and are the key factors affecting the quality of cashmere. To investigate the specific role of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and messenger RNAs (mRNAs) in regulating cashmere ...

Analysis of 206 whole‐genome resequencing reveals selection signatures associated with breed‐specific traits in Hu sheep

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 17, Issue 6, June 2024.
Abstract As an invaluable Chinese sheep germplasm resource, Hu sheep are renowned for their high fertility and beautiful wavy lambskins. Their distinctive characteristics have evolved over time through a combination of artificial and natural selection. Identifying selection signatures in Hu sheep can provide a straightforward insight into the mechanism

Goat grazing, its interactions with other herbivores and biodiversity conservation issues [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Goats have developed in harmony with local conditions of climate, terrain, vegetation, and even pathogens over centuries in many areas, while they have been blamed of causing environment degradation in other ones.
