The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of melatonin implants on cashmere growth, the concentrations of plasma melatonin and prolactin and the total cashmere yield in cashmere-perennial-type Liaoning cashmere goats. Twenty female goats were assigned to two treatments (n = 10) including a control and a treatment in which melatonin (2

Abstract Four genomic regions located on goat chromosomes 1, 2, 5 and 13 previously reported as significant DNA regions harboring quantitative trait loci (QTL) for growth and fleece traits in goat were considered as candidate genomic regions. The objective of conducting this study was to determine whether there is evidence for association of growth ...

AbstractTen Scottish male castrated cashmere-yielding (C) and 10 Angora (A) goats with initial live weights of 38·2 (C) and 32·1 (A) kg respectively were used in a 112-day study in the time period August to December. The goats were blocked within genotypes according to live weight and randomly assigned to one of two treatments: either no ...

Measurement of cashmere yield and mean fibre diameter using the optical fibre diameter analyser
Australian Journal of Experimental Agriculture, 1996A new technique was developed to measure the yield and mean fibre diameter of cashmere. The fibre diameter distribution of 2-mm snippets measured by the Optical Fibre Diameter Analyser (OFDA) was used to calculate cashmere yield of a goat fleece without dehairing.

The coat of the cashmere goat is made up of two components: a valuable down (cashmere) and the outer guard hair. Industrial processing is required in order to separate them. Yield is defined as the weight of down as a fraction of total fleece weight. An accurate assessment of yield or down weight is essential in order to determine the relative merit of

Methionine is a sulphur-containing essential amino acid which is frequently deficient in animal diets. A number of reports have indicated positive responses to the addition of methionine to the diet of ruminants in the form of protein or the individual amino acid.

Boneless meat yields and prediction equations from carcass parameters of Australian cashmere goats
Small Ruminant Research, 1990Abstract Ninety adult, castrated cashmere goats, typical of animals kept for commercial cashmere production in southern Australia, were slaughtered at a commercial abattoir and carcasses boned out at a commercial boning works. Liveweights ranged from 27.5 to 79.0 kg and hot carcass weight from 12.1 and 32.6 kg.
