Occurrence of cassava brown streak disease and associated Cassava brown streak virus and Ugandan cassava brown streak virus in the Comoros Islands [PDF]

open access: yesNew Disease Reports, 2017
Cassava brown streak disease (CBSD) has emerged as the most important viral disease of cassava (Manihot esculenta) in Africa and is a major threat to food security. The expanding CBSD epidemic in East and Central Africa is caused by two…

High-Throughput Virus Screening in Crosses of South American and African Cassava Germplasm Reveals Broad-Spectrum Resistance against Viruses Causing Cassava Brown Streak Disease and Cassava Mosaic Virus Disease

open access: yesAgronomy, 2022
Screening cassava lines for resistance against viruses causing cassava brown streak disease (CBSD) is cumbersome because of the unpredictable and erratic virus infections in the slow plant infection processes that are frequently not associated with ...

Unsuccessful Cassava Brown Streak Disease (CBSD) evaluation attempts in western Democratic Republic of Congo and implications with cassava root necrosis disease (CRND) etiology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Open Access ArticleCassava brown streak disease (CBSD) is the second most important virus disease after Cassava mosaic disease (CMD), infecting cassava (ManihotesculetaCrantz) in Africa. The disease is caused by two distinct viruses, Cassava brown streak

Analyses of Twelve New Whole Genome Sequences of Cassava Brown Streak Viruses and Ugandan Cassava Brown Streak Viruses from East Africa: Diversity, Supercomputing and Evidence for Further Speciation. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Cassava brown streak disease is caused by two devastating viruses, Cassava brown streak virus (CBSV) and Ugandan cassava brown streak virus (UCBSV) which are frequently found infecting cassava, one of sub-Saharan Africa's most important staple food crops.

Differential Tropism in Roots and Shoots of Resistant and Susceptible Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) Infected by Cassava Brown Streak Viruses

open access: yesCells, 2021
Cassava brown streak disease (CBSD) is a destructive disease of cassava in Eastern and Central Africa. Because there was no source of resistance in African varieties to provide complete protection against the viruses causing the disease, we searched in ...

Farmer and Field Survey in Cassava-Growing Districts of Rwanda Reveals Key Factors Associated With Cassava Brown Streak Disease Incidence and Cassava Productivity

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, 2021
Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is a vital crop in Rwanda where it ranks as the third most consumed staple. However, cassava productivity remains below its yield potential due to several constraints, including important viral diseases, such as cassava

Genotype by environment cultivar evaluation for cassava brown streak disease resistance in Tanzania.

open access: yesVirus Res, 2020
Cassava brown steak disease (CBSD), caused by Cassava brown streak virus (CBSV) and Ugandan cassava brown streak virus (UCBSV), is the most important biotic constraint to cassava production in East and Central Africa. Concerted efforts are required to prevent further spread into West Africa as well as to reduce losses in areas already affected.

Re-emergence of Cassava Brown Streak Disease in Uganda [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Disease, 2007
During November 2004, veinal chlorosis on mature cassava leaves, typical of cassava brown streak disease (CBSD), was observed at Mukono in central Uganda. Five out of 11 cultivars at the site showed CBSD symptoms (incidence range 4 to 64%). In a survey of farmers' fields, CBSD was observed in Wakiso and Mukono districts.

Cassava brown streak disease and the sustainability of a clean seed system. [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Pathol, 2016
One method of reducing disease in crops is the dissemination of disease‐free planting material from a multiplication site to growers. This study assesses the validity and sustainability of this method for cassava brown streak disease, a threat to cassava crops across East Africa.
