Remote Cooling of Rolls in Hot Rolling; Applicability to Other Processes

open access: yesMetals, 2021
A novel method of cooling rolls in hot rolling is proposed. This method uses a combination of solid jet nozzles and specially shaped deflecting vanes. The vanes transform the incoming cylindrical water jet into a flat fan.

Lattice Structure for Improving Cooling Uniformity in HPDC Mould Corners

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Conformal cooling channels have demonstrated significant advantages for cast parts and 3D-printed moulds in the high-pressure die casting (HPDC) process. However, the complex geometry of moulds, characterised by small intrusions, sharp corners, and fins,

Finite Element Analysis of Temperature Distribution and Stress Behavior of Squeeze Pressure Composites

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2021
Aluminium-reinforced composites play a vital role in the engineering industry because of their better strength and stiffness. The properties are directly related to the solidification phenomenon of the cast alloy.

Towards the Prediction of Tensile Properties in Automotive Cast Parts Manufactured by LPDC with the A356.2 Alloy

open access: yesMetals, 2022
Aluminum-silicon-magnesium alloys are commonly used in the automotive industry to produce structural components. Among usual quality controls of produced castings, microstructure characterization and determination of mechanical properties are the most ...

Shape-Dependent Strength of Al Si9Cu3FeZn Die-Cast Alloy in Impact Zone of Conformal Cooling Core

open access: yesMaterials, 2022
This article presents the results of shape-dependent strength analyses in die-castings from traditional (straight-drilled) and conformal core-cooling moulds. Cores with a traditional cooling layout were made of H13 steel using machining, and the working sections of the conformal cores were made using the selective laser melting method (SLM). Two series

Mechanism of die soldering during aluminum die casting [PDF]

open access: yesChina Foundry, 2015
Soldering is a unique casting defect associated with die casting or metal mold casting of aluminum alloys. It occurs when molten aluminum sticks or solders the surface of the die steel and remains there after the ejection of the casting, causing a ...

Analysis of the Causes of Cracks in a Thick-Walled Bush Made of Die-Cast Aluminum Bronze

open access: yesArchives of Foundry Engineering, 2016
For the die casting conditions of aluminium bronzes assumed based on the literature data, a thick-walled bush was cast, made of complex aluminium bronze (Cu-Al-Fe-Ni-Cr). After the cast was removed from the mould, cracks were observed inside it. In order

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.

Phase-Field Modelling of Bimodal Dendritic Solidification During Al Alloy Die Casting

open access: yesMetals
Tracking the microstructural evolution during high-pressure die casting of Al-Si alloys is challenging due to the rapid solidification, varying thermal conditions, and severe turbulence.
