Receptor‐Free Identification of Toxic Gases Enabled by Hygroscopic Aqueous Salt Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Water as a gas sensor coating sounds impossible—until it stops evaporating. Here, hygroscopic salt solutions (LiCl, LiBr, H3PO4) form non‐drying aqueous films on CNT chemiresistors under ambient air. Gases partition into these liquid layers, sometimes transforming into water, and generate salt‐specific resistance fingerprints across a four‐channel ...

European Beaver, Castor fiber, pinned by a felled tree

open access: yesThe Canadian field-naturalist, 1996
The death of an adult European Beaver (Castor fiber) caused by a felled tree in Southeast Norway is reported. The trunk fell on the beaver's tail pinning it to the ground.

Regulated Ion‐Diffusion Hydrogels for Subtle and Multimodal Temperature‐Strain Sensing in Wound Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A soft, dual‐channel hydrogel patch enables simultaneous detection of wound temperature and strain by integrating ion‐diffusion‐mediated thermoelectric and resistive sensing. The conformal design maintains stable performance during motion, capturing subtle inflammatory and mechanical changes for continuous wound monitoring.

Landscape structure and population density affect intraspecific aggression in beavers

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2020
Intraspecific competition plays an important role for territory acquisition and occupancy, in turn affecting individual fitness. Thus, understanding the drivers of intraspecific aggression can increase our understanding of population dynamics.

Swelling‐Programmed Topographical Guidance for Dynamic Spheroid Self‐Assembly via a Mechanochemical Hydrogel Niche

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A swelling‐programmed micropatterned hydrogel guides adherent cells through a controlled transition from cell–matrix anchoring to cadherin‐mediated cell–cell compaction, enabling rapid assembly of high‐viability spheroids with defined size and morphology.

Population genetic structure in natural and reintroduced beaver (Castor fiber) populations in Central Europe [PDF]

open access: yesAnimal Biodiversity and Conservation, 2008
Castor fiber Linnaeus, 1758 is the only indigenous species of the genus Castor in Europe and Asia. Due to extensive hunting until the beginning of the 20th century, the distribution of the formerly widespread Eurasian beaver was dramatically reduced ...

Intake, nutrient apparent digestibility and ruminal constituents of sheep fed diets with canola, sunflower or castor oils

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Zootecnia, 2012
The objective in this experiment was to determine the effects of feeding diets with canola, sunflower or castor oils on intake, nutrient apparent digestibility and ruminal constituents of crossbred Dorper × Santa Inês sheep. Four rumen-cannulated animals
