Creating space(s) for learning in prison: Developing an andragogical framework

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Learning in prison is too often excluded from wider discussions of educational experiences, processes and impact. This paper proposes, for the first time, an iterative andragogical framework to conceptualise learning spaces within prison contexts.

Integrating Digital Technologies Into Biochemistry Education: A Decade of Efforts, Pandemic Impacts, and Emerging Insights

open access: yesBiochemistry and Molecular Biology Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This review critically examines the integration of Digital Information and Communication Technologies (TDICs) in biochemistry education over the past decade, highlighting both the benefits and challenges from a critical theoretical perspective. A systematic review was conducted to identify relevant literature, followed by thematic analysis and

The impacts of biological invasions

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Anthropocene is characterised by a continuous human‐mediated reshuffling of the distributions of species globally. Both intentional and unintentional introductions have resulted in numerous species being translocated beyond their native ranges, often leading to their establishment and subsequent spread – a process referred to as biological

Rate effects on the estimation of fracture toughness by small punch tests in hydrogen embrittlement scenarios

open access: yesUbiquity Proceedings, 2018
In this paper, different techniques to test notched Small Punch (SPT) samples for the estimation of the fracture properties in aggressive environments are studied, based on the comparison of the micromechanisms at different rates.

Reading hominin life history in fossil bones and teeth: methods to test hypotheses regarding its evolution

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Human life history is derived compared to that of our closest living relatives, the great apes. It has been suggested that these derived traits are causally related to aspects of our ecology, social behaviour and cognitive abilities. However, resolving this requires that we know the evolutionary trajectory of our distinctive pattern of growth,

The ageing holobiont: crosstalk between telomere dynamics, oxidative stress and the gut microbiome

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The gut tissue is at the frontline of early onset of ageing. It exhibits high cell turnover rates and rapid telomere shortening, which can have systemic effects on the developing or senescing organism. We conducted a literature review of studies on the crosstalk between telomere length dynamics, telomerase activity, oxidative stress, and gut ...

The Twin Transition in Practice. Digital Technologies, Sustainability, and the Role of Family Ownership in Europe

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper examines whether and to what extent digital technologies (DTs) foster the adoption of environmental sustainability (ES), and how this relationship is moderated by family ownership. Using data from approximately 14,000 European firms surveyed in the Flash Eurobarometer 486, we estimate a recursive simultaneous equation model via a ...
