Reflectivity of Photonic Crystals Self-assembled with Silica Spheres

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Science and Technology, 2006
We investigate the spectral reflectivity of photonic crystals assembled with silica spheres. The propagation of electromagnetic wave can be controlled by periodic structures known as photonic crystals.

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

Hydrothermally Stable, Conformal, Sulfated Zirconia Monolayer Catalysts for Glucose Conversion to 5-HMF [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The grafting and sulfation of zirconia conformal monolayers on SBA-15 to create mesoporous catalysts of tunable solid acid/base character is reported. Conformal zirconia and sulfated zirconia (SZ) materials exhibit both Brönsted and Lewis acidity, with ...

Identification of functional murine mitochondrial formyl peptides and their effects on myeloid‐derived suppressor cell generation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We first identified functional murine mitochondrial N‐formyl peptides (MT‐FPs) and investigated their effects on the in vitro myeloid‐derived suppressor cell (MDSC) generation from bone marrow cells. We demonstrated that MT‐FPs acted directly on bone marrow cells to promote MDSC generation and modulated the polymorphonuclear (PMN)‐MDSC/monocyte (M ...

Development Of Monolithic Catalysts For Storage And Reduction Of Nitrogen Oxide (Nox) In Diesel Engine Exhaust. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008

Establishing an assay to evaluate d‐amino acid oxidase enzyme kinetics and inhibition using WST‐8 redox dye

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated a novel WST‐8‐based assay for evaluating d‐Amino acid oxidase (DAO) inhibitors. We confirmed its effectiveness using known inhibitors and found that uremic toxins possess relatively weak inhibitory activity compared to existing drugs.

Synthesis of Anchored Bimetallic Catalysts via Epitaxy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
: The development of thermodynamically stable supported bimetallic catalysts for high-temperature reaction is significant and highly desirable but remains a grand challenge. In this work, we report a novel approach that relies on the interaction of metal

Efficient in-situ synthesis of heterocyclic derivatives from benzyl alcohols using pyrazinium chlorochromate-functionalized carbonitride as a novel catalyst

open access: yesScientific Reports
The synthesis of efficient organic compounds from simple substrates is both noticeable and important. However, it can be challenging to achieve this target using suitable strategies.

Iron homeostasis disruption and lipid peroxidation in skeletal muscle during short‐term immobilization

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
14‐day casting‐induced immobilization reduced gastrocnemius muscle mass and increased non‐heme iron and ferritin heavy chain levels. Despite iron accumulation, transferrin receptor 1 and iron regulatory protein 2 were paradoxically upregulated. Lipid peroxidation was elevated without compensatory antioxidant responses.

Design of novel catalysts by infusion of presynthesized nanocrystals into mesoporous supports

open access: yes, 2008
textTraditionally, supported metal catalysts have been synthesized by reduction of precursors directly over the support. In these techniques, it is challenging to control the metal cluster size, composition and crystal structure.
