Catching the bad guy: Morphing composite faces helps.

Law and Human Behavior, 2007
Composite faces built by eyewitnesses commonly are poor likenesses of the target face. When there are multiple witnesses, however, an opportunity exists to morph the composites. Morphs were rated as more similar to the target face than were the mean ratings of the individual composites.

Mean temperature of the catch index can be masked by changes in catch composition unrelated to ocean warming

Fisheries Management and Ecology, 2023
AbstractOceans are increasingly warming through climate change. Fish and invertebrate ectotherms respond to ocean warming through poleward and depth‐related migrations, a consequence of which is disruption of fisheries catch compositions. Mean temperature of the catch (MTC) is an index of change in catch composition, from colder to warmer water species.

Protein composition of thick filaments from molluscan catch muscle and the role of twitchin in the catch-state formation

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2019
In the work, we performed densitometry of thick filaments of the Gray's mussel catch muscle; densitometry included determination of electrophoretic dye binding constants of proteins. The results of densitometry showed that the content of twitchin in thick filaments is significantly (10 times) lower than the content of myosin.

Catch composition and effects on fishing area of beam trawl

2005
Araştırmada, sürükleme av araçları grubunda yer alan algarna takımlarının av kompozisyonunun incelenmesi ve bu av takımının balıkçılık ortamında yarattığı etkilerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. İzmir Körfezi, Gülbahçe açıklarında birer saatlik 14 geçerli av operasyonu sonucu 21 türün yakalandığı tespit edilmiştir.

Catch composition in the Northern Ireland Nephrops fishery

Fisheries Research, 1985
Abstract A quantitative study of catch composition and discarding rates in the Northern Ireland Nephrops fishery, for the years 1981 and 1982, showed the Norway pout ( Trisopterus esmarkii ) to be the most discarded species, with the whiting ( Merlangius merlangus ) the most discarded commercial species.

Subsampling trawl catches from vessels using seawater hoppers: are catch composition estimates biased?

Fisheries Research, 2003
Abstract Subsampling is a commonly used method for estimating the composition of trawl catches. In many fisheries, an increasing number of trawlers use recirculating seawater hoppers to hold catches before extraction by a sorting conveyor belt from which the target species and byproduct are sorted from the bycatch. We tested whether taking subsamples

Similarity in export composition and catching-up

2005
In this paper we look at the role of export composition in the growth process, considering how increased similarity in trade structure among countries can induce catching-up in income levels. We apply our analysis to the Central and Eastern European Countries (CEECs) using the EU as a benchmark.

Differences in predicted catch composition between two widely used catch equation formulations

Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, 2009
Fishing gear selectivity varies among different types of fish (e.g., species, age, sex, or length groups), but their relative catch composition also depends on the fishing process. The continuous (Baranov) formulation assumes that fishing mortality and natural mortality occur together during the fishing season and that there are multiple encounters ...

Effect of tow duration on length composition of trawl catches

Fisheries Research, 1990
Abstract The standard tow duration for trawl surveys is normally from 30 min to 2 h. In this paper we investigate if catch rates for different size groups change for varying durations of from 5 min to 2 h. Data for cod, haddock and long rough dab from the Barents Sea and Georges Bank are analyzed.

Catch and by-catch composition of the shrimp fishery by beam trawl in the southeastern Marmara Sea.

2006
