Dental development in the tropical gar (Atractosteus tropicus) and the evolution of vertebrate dentitions

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Dentitions have diversified enormously during vertebrate evolution, involving reductions, modifications, or allocations to prey seizing and processing regions. A combination of ancient and novel features related to dental and oropharyngeal apparatuses is found in extant lineages of non‐teleost fishes, such as the gars.

Food Contamination and Safety in Nigeria: A Systematic Synthesis of Heavy Metals, Microbial Pathogens, and Health Risk Metrics

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
This is an infographic driver of food contaminants and health effects. ABSTRACT Food safety remains a critical challenge in Nigeria due to rapid urbanization and weak regulatory enforcement. This systematic review synthesizes empirical evidence from 2015 to 2025 to characterize food contaminant profiles and associated human health risks in Nigeria ...

Utilization of enzyme hydrolysis from Shrimp Head in improve the quality catfish

open access: yesDepik Jurnal, 2022
Protein is one of the most important components that can support the growth and development of catfish. The price of feed with high protein content which is relatively expensive is a big problem in the catfish farming process.

The Single, the Whole, and the Pooled: Implications of Tissue Choice for Stable Isotope Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In the exciting era of non‐invasive tissue sampling and data reuse via open access databases, it is increasingly challenging to ensure comparability of sample types for stable isotope analysis in ecology. According to the theoretical predictions about the changes in the stable isotope values between prey and consumers and tissue turnover rates,

Study On The Effects of Polyculture of the Sterlet (Acipenser Ruthenus) Fingerlings and European Catfish (Silurus Glanis) on Bioproductive Performances of These Species in Recirculating Aquaculture Systems

open access: yesScientific Papers Animal Science and Biotechnologies, 2023
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of polyculture of the sterlet (Acipenser ruthenus) fingerlings with european catfish (Silurus glanis) (20 – 30%) into recirculating aquaculture system on growth dynamic of the fish and tank’s ...

Dietary Habits of Hardhead (Ariopsis felis) and Gafftopsail (Bagre marinus) Catfish Revealed through DNA Barcoding of Stomach Contents

open access: yesFishes, 2023
A better understanding of trophic interactions between hardhead catfish (Ariopsis felis) and gafftopsail catfish (Bagre marinus) is crucial for developing multi-species management strategies for the northern Gulf of Mexico (GOM).

Coagulation of Catfish Blood

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1965
SummaryThe blood of the fresh water catfish (Ameiurus nebulosus) clots rapidly. There appears to be species specificity of the prothrombin-thromboplastin reaction with both the one- and two-stage methods. Catfish brain thromboplastin causes rapid clotting of catfish plasma, but acts as a partial thromboplastin with canine plasma.

A draft genome of the striped catfish, Pangasianodon hypophthalmus, for comparative analysis of genes relevant to development and a resource for aquaculture improvement

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2018
Background The striped catfish, Pangasianodon hypophthalmus, is a freshwater and benthopelagic fish common in the Mekong River delta. Catfish constitute a valuable source of dietary protein. Therefore, they are cultured worldwide, and P. hypophthalmus is
