Genome Expansion of ZPB1(a) and ZPC1(a) in Basal Species or Liver Expression of ZPB1a and ZPC1aa in Advanced Species, Two Different Strategies to Ensure Sufficient ZP Synthesis in Teleosts

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
We found that teleosts employed two different strategies to ensure sufficient ZP (zona pellucida) synthesis: expansion of ZPB1(a) and ZPC1(a) in basal species or liver expression of ZPB1a and ZPC1aa in advanced species. The N‐terminus of expanded ZPB1(a) or ZPC1(a) and liver‐expressed ZPB1a contains repeated units or low‐complexity regions to form ...

Fats, Fire and Bronze Age Funerary Rites: Organic Residue Analysis of Wide Horizontal Rim Vessels From Burial Contexts in Northwest Portugal

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study presents the first GC‐MS–based analyses of wide horizontal rim vessels with well‐defined funerary contexts, from Middle Bronze Age Portugal (Quinta do Amorim 2 and Pego). Organic residues from two vessels revealed ruminant fats and plant oils, alongside molecular markers of heat exposure.

Growth, condition factor, and survival of juvenile channel (Ictalurus punctatus), blue (I. furcatus), and hybrid (I. punctatus × I. furcatus) catfish at moderate and high temperatures

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society
Although hybrid catfish (Ictalurus punctatus × I. furcatus) now constitute about half of the industry production, few studies have assessed comparative growth and survival with other commercially important catfish.

Too good to be true: Synthetic AI faces are more average than real faces and super‐recognizers know it

open access: yesBritish Journal of Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract The AI revolution has produced synthetic faces that often appear more human than photos of real people. We tested whether individual differences in human face recognition ability explain variation in discriminating AI from real faces. Super‐recognizers – people with exceptional ability to recognize human faces (N = 36) – outperformed a typical

Bacterial Diversity in the Digestive Tracts of Four Indian Air-Breathing Fish Species Investigated by PCR Based Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology
An investigation was conducted to identify the allochthonous microbiota (entire intestine) and the autochthonous microbiota in proximal intestine (PI) and distal intestine (DI) of four species of Indian air-breathing fish (climbing perch; Anabas ...

Development of a Monoclonal Antibody Specific to the IgM Heavy Chain of Bighead Catfish (Clarias macrocephalus): A Biomolecular Tool for the Detection and Quantification of IgM Molecules and IgM+ Cells in Clarias Catfish

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2020
Catfish is a commonly-cultivated freshwater fish in Thailand and many Southeast Asian countries. The molecular data obtained for the IgM heavy chain (IgMH) of catfish have been useful for distinguishing monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). A mAb specific to Cμ1

The Formulation of High-Calorie and Rich-Fe Biscuits for Pregnant Women with Chronic Energy Malnutrition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Supplementary food distribution for pregnant women still depends on the local policy. This program is funded using Health Operational Funds and distributed in form of milk, eggs, raw materials such as green beans and others. The field constraints of this

Refining a molecular tool kit to capture tropicalization in Mediterranean marine protected areas

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, EarlyView.
We assess complementarity and trade‐offs between visual census and eDNA metabarcoding for monitoring fish community changes in MPAs. Abstract Tropicalization, the process by which tropical species expand their ranges poleward due to global ocean warming, is a prominent threat to Mediterranean marine ecosystems, challenging their effective management ...

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF STATE LOGOS FOR FARM-RAISED CATFISH [PDF]

open access: yes
Product differentiation can consist of identifying the corporate firm that produces the product (such as Kraft) or the producer cooperative that produces the product (such as Ocean Spray).
