Catharanthus Alkaloids XXXII: Isolation of Alkaloids from Catharanthus Trichophyllus Roots and Structure Elucidation of Cathaphylline

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1976
Further examination of the cytotoxic alkaloid fractions of Catharanthus trichophyllus roots afforded nine alkaloids. Two of these alkaloids, lochnericine and horhammericine, are responsible for part of the cytotoxic activity. The structure elucidation of cathaphylline, a new beta-anilino acrylate derivative, is described.

The Catharanthus Alkaloids:Pharmacognosy and Biotechnology

Current Medicinal Chemistry, 2004
The Catharanthus (or Vinca) alkaloids comprise a group of about 130 terpenoid indole alkaloids. Vinblastine is now marketed for more than 40 years as an anticancer drug and became a true lead compound for drug development. Due to the pharmaceutical importance and the low content in the plant of vinblastine and the related alkaloid vincristine ...

Imaging MS Analysis in Catharanthus roseus

2022
To understand how the plant regulates metabolism, it is important to determine where metabolites localize in the tissues and cells. Single-cell level omics approaches in plants have shown remarkable development over the last several years, and this data has been instrumental in gene discovery efforts for enzymes and transporters involved in metabolism.

Production of anthocyanins by Catharanthus roseus

Fitoterapia, 2003
A stable cell suspension line of Catharanthus roseus producing anthocyanin was obtained. In this strain it was found that approximately 30% of cells regularly accumulated these metabolites and that anthocyanin accumulation occurred between the second half of log phase and the stationary phase of the culture growth cycle.

Catharanthus Alkaloids X. Isolation of Lanceine and Vinosidine from Catharanthus Lanceus Roots

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1967
In a continuing search for new biologically active entities in Catharanthus lanceus, additional work on the root (A) fraction has led to the isolation of two alkaloids. One of these, lanceine, was previously isolated from this plant by other workers. Vinosidine, however, although previously reported in a related species, is reported from this species ...

Catharanthus Alkaloids XXVI: Isolation of Cathanneine, a New Alkaloid from Catharanthus lanceus

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1972
A new dihydroindole alkaloid, having the composition C24H30N2O5, was isolated from the leaf (A) fraction of Catharanthus lanceus. The isolation procedure and physical characterization of this new base, named cathanneine, are described.

Codon usage bias of Catharanthus roseus

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica, 2016
This study aimed to provide guidance for the heterogenous gene expression, gene prediction and species evolution by analyzing codon usage bias of Catharanthus roseus. The codon composition and usage bias of 30 437 high-confidence coding sequences from C.roseus were analyzed and the proportion of rare codons of Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces ...

Antiviral Activity of Selected Catharanthus Alkaloids

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1968
Thirty-six alkaloids isolated either from Catharanthus roseus or C. lanceus were evaluated for in vitro activity against vaccinia and polio type III viruses. Nine of these alkaloids were effective as antiviral agents, with pericalline being the most effective.

Transformation in Catharanthus Species (Madagascar Periwinkle)

1993
Secondary metabolite production by plant cell cultures has been the subject of many investigations. Indole alkaloids such as ajmalicine, an antihypertensive drug, or vinblastine and vincristin, two antitumor compounds produced by Catharanthus roseus, are very important in the pharmaceutical industry.
