Construction of Carbon Nanotube-based Composite Membrane with Electron-ion Double Transfer Function and its Electrically Driven Ion Separation Performance

open access: yesTaiyuan Ligong Daxue xuebao, 2023
The construction of electroactive ion separation membranes with dual functions of electron and ion transfer is a key technology in the field of electronchemically switched ion permselectivity membrane (ESIPM) separation.

Overlimiting convection at a heterogeneous cation-exchange membrane studied by particle image velocimetry

open access: yes, 2022
Electroconvection and gravitational convection are recognized as the primary mechanisms driving overlimiting currents in ion-exchange systems. Here, we use particle image velocimetry (PIV) to characterize the convection on a small piece of a commercially

The Role of Ion Exchange Membranes in Membrane Capacitive Deionisation

open access: yesMembranes, 2017
Ion-exchange membranes (IEMs) are unique in combining the electrochemical properties of ion exchange resins and the permeability of a membrane. They are being used widely to treat industrial effluents, and in seawater and brackish water desalination ...

Evaluation of Electrodialysis Desalination Performance of Novel Bioinspired and Conventional Ion Exchange Membranes with Sodium Chloride Feed Solutions

open access: yesMembranes, 2021
Electrodialysis (ED) desalination performance of different conventional and laboratory-scale ion exchange membranes (IEMs) has been evaluated by many researchers, but most of these studies used their own sets of experimental parameters such as feed ...

Membrane Potentials and Ion Permeability in a Cation Exchange Membrane

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 1971
The nonequilibrium electrical potentials across an artificial membrane bathed by solutions of a single salt have been measured and calculated using the Goldman-Hodgkin-Katz equation and the irreversible thermodynamic equation. The latter equation predicts the observed potential differences over a 2500-fold concentration range, while application of a ...

Self-diffusion of a Cation through Cation Exchange Membrane and Membrane Permeability [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan, 1973
Abstract The self-diffusion coefficient of an ion and the membrane permeability were studied with a system consisting of two identical electrolyte solutions separated by a cation exchange membrane. The membrane permeability to cation was estimated from the membrane conductance data.

Valorization of Seawater Reverse Osmosis Brine by Monovalent Ion-Selective Membranes through Electrodialysis

open access: yesMembranes, 2023
This paper proposes the use of monovalent selective electrodialysis technology to concentrate the valuable sodium chloride (NaCl) component present in seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) brine for direct utilization in the chlor-alkali industry.

Role of membrane surface in concentration polarization at cation exchange membranes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Cation exchange membranes made of blends of sulphonated polyetherether ketone (S-PEEK) and poly(ether sulphone) (PES) were thoroughly characterized with respect to their concentration polarization properties.

Permselectivities of Cation-exchange Membranes

open access: yesThe Journal of the Society of Chemical Industry, Japan, 1960
