Coagulant recovery from water treatment residuals: a review of applicable technologies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Conventional water treatment consumes large quantities of coagulant and produces even greater volumes of sludge. Coagulant recovery (CR) presents an opportunity to reduce both the sludge quantities and the costs they incur, by regenerating and purifying ...

Mass transfer across cation exchange membrane.

open access: yesJOURNAL OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING OF JAPAN, 1989
The transfer rates of Na+ , K+, Mg2+ and Ca2+ across a cation exchange membrane were investigated. Two models were examined to explain the experimental results. The first model is based on the ion exchange equilibrium at the membrane surface, the second on the nonequilibrium exchange kinetics at the membrane surface and within the membrane.

Advancing Electronic Application of Coordination Solids: Enhancing Electron Transport and Device Integration via Surface‐Mounted MOFs (SURMOFs)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The layer‐by‐layer (LbL) assembly of coordination solids, enabled by the surface‐mounted metal‐organic framework (SURMOF) platform, is on the cusp of generating the organic counterpart of the epitaxy of inorganics. The programmable and sequential SURMOF protocol, optimized by machine learning (ML), is suited for accessing high‐quality thin films of ...

Current-induced membrane discharge [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Possible mechanisms for over-limiting current (OLC) through aqueous ion-exchange membranes (exceeding diffusion limitation) have been debated for half a century.

NanoMOF‐Based Multilevel Anti‐Counterfeiting by a Combination of Visible and Invisible Photoluminescence and Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.

COMBINATION OF REVERSE OSMOSIS AND ELECTRODEIONIZATION FOR SIMULTANEOUS SUGAR RECOVERY AND SALTS REMOVAL FROM SUGARY WASTEWATER

open access: yesReaktor, 2011
An integrated membrane system combining reverse osmosis (RO) and electrodeionization (EDI) is used for simultaneous sugar concentration and salts removal from a synthetic dilute sugar solution as a model of sugar-containing wastewater. The RO system uses

Copper removal from aqueous solution using Amberlite IR-120 cation exchanger mixed matrix membrane chromatography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Copper is one of the toxic heavy metals that contaminated in industrial wastewater. Cation exchange chromatography is widely used for the removal of copper (II)from the water.

Identification of novel chondroitin proteoglycans in Caenorhabditis elegans: embryonic cell division depends on CPG-1 and CPG-2. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Vertebrates produce multiple chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans that play important roles in development and tissue mechanics. In the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, the chondroitin chains lack sulfate but nevertheless play essential roles in embryonic ...

Chemical Surface, Thermal and Electrical Characterization of Nafion Membranes Doped with IL-Cations

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2014
Surface and bulk changes in a Nafion membrane as a result of IL-cation doping (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate or BMIM+BF4 and phenyltrimethylammonium chloride or TMPA+Cl−) were studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), contact ...
