Chemical Surface, Thermal and Electrical Characterization of Nafion Membranes Doped with IL-Cations

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2014
Surface and bulk changes in a Nafion membrane as a result of IL-cation doping (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate or BMIM+BF4 and phenyltrimethylammonium chloride or TMPA+Cl−) were studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), contact ...

Distal renal tubular acidosis developments in its diagnosis and pathophysiology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This thesis describes two groups of experiments, both relating to the condition of distal renal tubular acidosis (dRTA). In the first, an alternative diagnostic test of dRTA to the ‘gold standard’ short ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) test was assessed ...

Isolation of lysozyme from hen egg albumen using glass fiber-based cation-exchange membranes

open access: yes, 2014
In this study, porous glass fiber membranes were coated with monophenyl trimethoxysilane (MPh) and then sulphonated by chlorosulphonic acid to prepare the cation-exchange membranes with sulphonic acid groups.

Divalent Cation Removal by Donnan Dialysis for Improved Reverse Electrodialysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Divalent cations in feedwater can cause significant decreases in efficiencies for membrane processes, such as reverse electrodialysis (RED). In RED, power is harvested from the mixing of river and seawater, and the obtainable voltage is reduced and the ...

Electrospun Wood‐Derived Biopolymers as Electrodes in Electrochemical Energy Storage Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electrospinning transforms wood‐derived cellulose and lignin into architecturally defined, binder‐free carbon electrodes with tuneable porosity and functionality. This review shows how fibre design enables decoupled charge and mass transport, enhancing performance across battery systems, while identifying key challenges in spinnability, scalability ...

Fusogenic RNA Nanomodules for Fusion‐Mediated and Multiplexed siRNA Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A fusogenic lipid‐layered RNA nanomodules (L‐CRAMs) enable high‐capacity and long‐lasting siRNA delivery through membrane fusion. These nanomodules carry exceptionally large siRNA payloads, avoid conventional endosomal uptake, and release multiple functional siRNAs through Dicer‐mediated processing.

DIFFUSION BOUNDARY LAYERS IN SOLUTIONS AT THE INTERPHASE WITH THE SULFOCATION-EXCHANGE MEMBRANE AFTER TEMPERATURE MODIFICATION

open access: yesКонденсированные среды и межфазные границы, 2017
The use of the laser interferometry method allows measuring local concentrations and visualizing the process of formation and development of diffusion layers in solutions near the surface of the ion-exchange membrane.

Hierarchical Primary‐Secondary Coordination Synchronizes Ion Flux and Sulfur Redox in Solid Polymer Electrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hierarchical coordination engineering redistributes Li+ from anion‐dominated pairing toward polymer‐mediated binding. Strong primary sites promote salt dissociation, while distributed secondary sites sustain dynamic hopping pathways. This coordination landscape couples ion flux with polysulfide conversion, suppresses transport‐conversion decoupling ...

Friedel–Crafts Crosslinked Highly Sulfonated Polyether Ether Ketone (SPEEK) Membranes for a Vanadium/Air Redox Flow Battery

open access: yesMembranes, 2013
Highly conductive and low vanadium permeable crosslinked sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (cSPEEK) membranes were prepared by electrophilic aromatic substitution for a Vanadium/Air Redox Flow Battery (Vanadium/Air-RFB) application.

Functionalizing Micro‐to‐Mesoscopic Electrode Architectures for Regulating Electron Transfer Behaviors in Electrocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A systematic review is conducted to assess the influence of electrode architecture across micro‐ to mesoscopic length scales on electron‐transfer pathways in electrocatalysis. We discuss the structure‐activity relationships in electrocatalytic applications, including resource recovery and environmental remediation, and provide cost‐effective, efficient
